Life wasn’t easy as a child living in a home with a...view moreSandra Allison-Chatman was born in Pine Bluff Arkansas. She was the first of five children born to Floyd and Elizabeth McMurray. Life wasn’t easy as a child living in a home with an alcoholic father. Everyone suffered from his illness. After a bitter divorce her mother moved to Detroit, Michigan where she was raised and educated. Only one month after living in a large city, her father was murdered. She was only thirteen years old at the time. Dealing with her emotional loss and unfamiliar new environment caused her to become extremely reserved. She learned to express herself through writing.
While earning her degree in Liberal Arts, at Wayne Country Community College, a professor noticed her writing abilities and recommended that she write short stories. It was during her studies at Oakland University when she finally took writing seriously. She and brother, Devortrey, started an urban lifestyle magazine called, Bangin’ The Magazine, which secured both national sales and distribution. After publishing several articles for the magazine, she realized that writing was her passion and decided to take her gift further.
