of four grown daughters and grandmother to eight.
For seven years, Beyer worked with the Eastern Carver County public school system,
in Chaska, MN. She often told stories to the children that taught character value
lessons. One of the kids’ favorite stories was “Naughty Nelly,” about a little girl who
learns consequences of disobedience and therefore personal accountability. Each new
class of five and six year-olds entering kindergarten would hear these adventures. During
these seven years, many frustrated parents came to Beyer asking where they could buy
“Naughty Nelly,” only to hear that it was merely a story she had made up. Teachers,
librarians, as well as parents, insisted Beyer should develop it into a book.
After moving to Nashville, TN in 2012, Beyer took up the challenge of transforming her
story into a book. Harnessing her artistic talent, Beyer brought Nelly to life on the page.
Many adventures await Nelly. Future books will follow Nelly and her friends as they
learn to become confident, honest and compassionate human beings—who sometimes
make bad choices along the way. Themes will include lying, cheating, stealing, and having
tantrums. These future books will illustrate how, with proper guidance and training from
parents, grandparents, and teachers, children can learn from mistakes and bad choices.
Nelly and her friends will learn that making good choices in life makes for good and
lasting changes.view less
