From the Publisher
OF the miscellaneous poems of mine that follow, none have been published, though written long ago, and others partly written. The pieces are in a large degree dramatic or personative in conception; and this even when they are not obviously so. Of the subject-matter of this volume, some belong to a series of feelings and fancies written down in widely differing moods and circumstancesbut in adjacent timing of other poems of mine naming them my bright moods and poems. I do not greatly regret these as unadjusted impressions have their own value as if they were forced upon me by chance and change.
