Lord, Use Me - Charles Billingsley

    place.

Whoever serves me must follow me. Then my servant will be with me everywhere I am. My Father will honor anyone who serves me.

    John 12:26 NCV

God wants to use you today. He wants to use you in ways that only He can fully understand. He wants to use you as His tool, for His purposes, for the glory of His kingdom.

Your Heavenly Father has placed you at a particular place and time—and He has given you a particular array of resources—so that you might serve Him with willing hands and a grateful heart. Will you serve Him today? If you’re a faithful follower of the One from Galilee, the answer to that question should be obvious.

Jesus said, If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor (John 12:26 NKJV). These words remind us that, for Christians, service is not optional. We, who have been given so much, are instructed to give generously of our time, our talents, and our resources.

Whatever your path, whatever your calling, whatever your station in life, please remember this: service is an integral part of God’s plan for you. So, if you genuinely desire to discover God’s unfolding purpose for your life, you must prayerfully petition Him by asking this question: Lord, how do You want to use me right now?

Every single day of your life, including this one, God will give you opportunities to serve Him by serving His children. Ask the Lord Jesus today to open your eyes to the needs around you and to show you areas in which you can serve others. Those areas might be as close as your neighbor next door or even under your own roof. Welcome those opportunities with open arms . . . and seize them . . . today.

    A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Lord, I can serve only one master; let me serve You. Let my actions be pleasing to You; let my words reflect Your infinite love; let my prayers be sincere and my thoughts be pure. In everything that I do, Father, let me praise You and serve You today and for eternity. Amen

For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, says the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.

    Isaiah 55:8-9 NKJV

When we genuinely seek to know God’s will—when we prayerfully seek His wisdom and His guidance—our Heavenly Father carefully leads us over the peaks and valleys of life. As Christians, we can be comforted: Whether we find ourselves at the pinnacle of the mountain or the darkest depths of the valley, God is always there with us. Most of life, however, is lived somewhere in between those two extremes. So here’s an important question: on a seemingly normal day, do you allow God to guide your thoughts and actions?

    C. S. Lewis observed, I don’t doubt that the Holy Spirit guides your decisions from within when you make them with the intention of pleasing God. The error would be to think that He speaks only within, whereas in reality He also speaks through Scripture, the Church, Christian friends, and books. These words remind us that God has many ways to make Himself known. Our challenge is to make ourselves open to His instruction.

Do you place a high value on God’s guidance, and do you talk to Him regularly about matters great and small? Or do you talk with God on a haphazard basis? If you’re wise, you’ll form the habit of speaking to God early and often. But you won’t stop there—you’ll also study God’s Word, you’ll obey God’s commandments, and you’ll associate with people who do likewise.

So, if you’re unsure how God intends to use you today, lean upon His promises and lift your prayers to Him. Remember that God is always near—always trying to get His message through. Open yourself to Him every day, and trust Him to guide your path. When you do, He’ll find miraculous ways to use you today, tomorrow, and every day after that.

    A TIP FOR TODAY

If you’re wise, you’ll allow God to guide you today and every day of your life. When you pray for guidance, God will give it.

Lord, You light my lamp; my God illuminates my darkness.

    Psalm 18:28 HCSB

    Proverbs 3:6 NKJV

    A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Dear Lord, thank You for Your constant presence and Your constant love. I draw near to You this day with the confidence that You are ready to guide me. Open my eyes to the little things that can make the difference in someone’s life. Help me walk closely with You, Father, and help me share Your Good News with all who cross my path. Amen

You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

    Matthew 5:14-16 NKJV

Matthew 5 makes it clear: you are, indeed, the light of the world. Corrie ten Boom observed, There is nothing anybody else can do that can stop God from using us. We can turn everything into a testimony. Her words remind us that when we truly live our lives sacrificially for Christ, our actions may speak even more loudly than our words.

When we demonstrate our faith through service, we are fulfilling an important responsibility: the responsibility of making certain that our words are reinforced by our actions. When we share our testimonies through both words and service, we become undeniable examples of the changes that Jesus makes in the lives of those who accept Him as their Savior.

Are you willing to follow in the footsteps of Jesus by dedicating yourself to a life of service? If so, you should also be willing to talk about Him. And make no mistake—the time to express your belief in Him is now. You know how He has touched your own heart; He will do the same for others. And many times, it will be your words and your actions that He uses as the catalyst for change.

I learned of a woman named Laura who was being treated in the state mental institution. Even though I didn’t know her personally, I decided to visit her. After making my way through security, I met Laura and we began to chat. When I handed her a roll of Life Saver’s candy, she smiled for the first time.

I pointed to the name on the roll and told her to never forget that her life was precious, that she could be saved, just like Jesus saved me.
