Please don't take the fact that I have labeled this as 'read' to mean that I have read every word in this book. I am not the kind of gal who could sit down and read a dictionary.

But I have begun to use this book. As a person with limited formal training in literary theory, I am finding this dictionary terribly useful. It doesn't just define literary terms, it gives a Reader's Digest elaboration on each term. And that is helping me to determine where in the treasure trove of literature I ought to dig next.read more

Ok, the book is quite *hefty*, but it does become very handy if you are studying for an English degree. I had a smaller one, but I ended up buying this one because I was losing out on some literary criticism terms. Some entries do takes a certain number of pages, and can be quite confusing, but other ones are fine, and the terms allowed me to understand some particularly complicated terms. This book will be kept on my shelves, because it has become an essential tool for my studies.read more
