About this ebook
America’s economy and democracy are working for the benefit of an ever-fewer privileged and powerful people. But rather than just complain about it or give up on the system, we must join together and make it work for all of us.
In this timely book, Robert B. Reich argues that nothing good happens in Washington unless citizens are energized and organized to make sure Washington acts in the public good. The first step is to see the big picture. Beyond Outrage connects the dots, showing why the increasing share of income and wealth going to the top has hobbled jobs and growth for everyone else, undermining our democracy; caused Americans to become increasingly cynical about public life; and turned many Americans against one another. He also explains why the proposals of the “regressive right” are dead wrong and provides a clear roadmap of what must be done instead.
Here’s a plan for action for everyone who cares about the future of America.

Reviews for Beyond Outrage
39 ratings4 reviews
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Short and to the point analysis of the predicament we are in, how we got there, and how to get out of it. Clear exposition.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book, by former Secretary of Labor Robert B. Reich, explains in understandable terms what is wrong with the US economy and the entire political system as it is today. It also gives historic examples and what we should do to correct it.
I found one passage from the book that summarizes the problem very well: "We're not in trouble because gays want to marry or because women want to have some control over when they have babies. We're in trouble because CEOs are collecting exorbitant pay while slicing the pay of average workers, because the titans of Wall Street demand short-term results over long-term jobs, and because of a boardroom culture that tolerates financial conflict of interest, insider trading, and the outright bribery of public officials through unlimited campaign "donations"."
Although, I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads I give this book five stars because Reich makes a compelling argument in a very readable book not out of any perceived obligation.
If you disagree with the statement above, I dare you to open-mindedly read this book. I must admit that when I read it, Robert Reich was preaching to the choir, but he just confirmed and increased my outrage!
Amen! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A very easy to read explanation of both the causes and the solutions to out recent stagnate economy. The former Secretary of Labor is a very sensible guy. He hones in all the imbalance of wealth in our country and how this is very counter productive. He also is like a laser disputing the plethora of myths the far right spews out generally unchallenged about both the causes and solutions to our economic woes. The greatness of this book is that it explains complex economics in down to earth language. There even some cute visual aids but don't let that fool you this is a book of common sense substance.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is one of the Amazon Kindle singles. The premise is that the widening division of wealth in this country is the primary cause of our current economic pain and will ultimately lead to further erosion of the prosperous life style of a strong American middle class. The author is intelligent and his arguments are clear and fact based. At the same time his arguments are not as removed from political ideology as he would have the reader believe. If you believed he was right before reading the book, the arguments are very convincing. Overall, the book was worth treading and may have helped me 'get busy' and do something to make things better.
