    Timothy Zahn is the New York Times–bestselling science fiction author of more than forty novels, as well as many novellas and short stories. Best known for his contributions to the expanded Star Wars universe of books, including the Thrawn trilogy, Zahn also wrote the Cobra series and the young adult Dragonback series—the first novel of which, Dragon and Thief, was an ALA Best Book for Young Adults. Zahn currently resides in Oregon with his family.

      This is the second of a two book series by Zahn with the first one being STAR WARS: SPECTER OF THE PAST. And Zahn continues to demonstrate superior character growth, more complex plots, and a vision that is more in line with the Star Wars universe than most of the other Star Wars authors. This picks up from the previous novel and continues with Thrawn's reappearence and his subsequent attempts to rule the Empire. My only real regret, and I seem to do this all the time, is that I didn't read the two books back-to-back. I know that I lose a lot of details about what has happened in the first book and the first 100 pages or so are me picking it all back up again.

      With the Caamas issue still raging on a civil war, the New Republic has no choice but to find a copy of the Caamas Document no matter the risk. The New Republic sends officials to bastion, pilots to Bothawui, a slicer to an Imperial station, and smugglers to another smuggler all in attempt of retrieving this one document. Bantam Spectra’s Vision of the Future is book two of the Hand of Thrawn duology by award winning Timothy Zahn, author of the historic Thrawn Trilogy. The book masterly plays out the plots and schemes from book one, skilfully reveals plot twists, and answers all unanswered questions from book one of the duology, Spectre of the Past, which definitely did not displease. Vision of the Future is also known to be the novel with the most pages currently out of any other star wars novel.

      This book is just amazing and very fun to read. Its so romantic and excellent, its my most tattered and reread Star Wars book.

      Nice conclusion to the story began in 'Specter of the Past'. I especially enjoyed the deepening relationship of Luke and Mara, as well as the hints of where the star wars storyline might be headed in the future. This book does a lot of stuff with appearances vs. reality. Almost every storyline in this novel played with this theme. Mr. Zahn ultimately comes down on the side of knowing who to trust and then doing so despite the appearances.

      Will the real Thrawn please stand up? No, really. For past revelations and twisting the ethical questions even greyer, this gets five stars. For being a Thrawn book without any meaty Thrawn goodness, it loses one. I may arbitrarily fix that in the future. Sometime after a certain Norghi clone slaps a knife to my throat...
