NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE

When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.

Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success—his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family—Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey’s secrets and explores her own dark desires.

This book is intended for mature audiences.

I throughly enjoyed this book And the subsequent sequals. It was an easy read, and the subject matter was, stimulating! Reading for me is a way to pass my time. THis book did it for me. Reading is an entertainment. I have even recommended this to friends and neighbors. It might not be your cup of tea, but time does pass by very quickly! Save yourself some time and buy them all at once, that is what I did, you will not be disappointed!read more

Covering for a friend who is sick, Anastasia Steele finds herself conducting an interview with wealthy, young, and gorgeous Christian Grey. Christian is quite taken with the smart and beautiful Ana, but Ana is torn between having the relationship she has always dreamed of or entering into a contractual BDSM relationship with Christian Grey, which maybe the only way she can follow her heart and stay in his life.E. L. James certainly knows how to write some steamy love scenes and the conflicts the couple go through keep the pages turning. The only criticism I have of James' writing is the phrases she uses so repetitively. By the end of the book, I wanted to scream every time they appear! Despite these annoyances, James' cliffhanger at the end of the novel found me on Amazon purchasing the 2nd book. Of course this irritated me, but not enough to avoid James marketing scheme!read more

Read this book in a week... it captured my attention. Yes, there is a lot of sex but it is the story underneath that that caught my attention. Christian Grey is a very complicated person and there is a reason for that. It is the layers underneath that caught my attention. It was the desire to find out more about Christian and Anastasia that made me want to keep reading.read more

Very late night flight home - delayed by two hours. I've met someone at the airport and we are keeping each other company. The plane is pretty empty. I sit one side of the aisle, he the other. I pick up a discarded newspaper and there is a spread in it all about this book 'Fifty Shades of Grey' that everyone is reading. I haven't heard of it. I'm curious to see what my new friend is reading, and glance surreptitiously over his shoulder. It's 'Fifty Shades of Grey'. I say nothing. He is clearly engrossed.A couple of weeks later, I order the book with the grocery delivery and settle down to read it. It takes me months to read - it's pretty full on in parts and I'm not always in the mood. I have a vague notion that it has had a bad press, been panned by the critics, that it is not well written. I avoid reading any reviews of it and decide I will judge for myself. I am surprised that I really enjoy the book. I find myself liking and identifying with Anastasia. It is like being in her head. True, it's not the most polished prose you'll ever read, but it takes you through what she experiences extraordinarily convincingly. I found myself quite carried along with it. I'm a generation older than her and I don't think I ever had her stamina, but most of us have been through something of what she describes. No?Also, I kept thinking of people who I believe might benefit from reading this book, including myself years ago when I was Anastasia's age!

Fifty Shades is everything critics say it is: poorly written, unrealistic and derivative. But it is also surprisingly effective as a love story (albeit a dysfunctional one) and a page-turner.

although what is "done" in this book is nothing new to me personally-I've tried and/or done most of everything that was in the "contract", I still found this first book interesting and intriguing. It held my interest most of the time. The interactions between Anastasia and Christian were amusing, provocative, and sensual. I enjoyed following Ana's newfound courage and outspokenness.
