For four women, the bonds of friendship had sustained them for twenty years, through marriage, motherhood — and murder.

Looking back, it seemed like paradise — lives filled with the blessings of friendship, marriage, children and career. Over twenty years, four friends shared everything through good times and bad, and together they faced the challenges of life and love head on. Now, one of their number sits alone to ponder the strange twists and turns of fate and the unpredictability of circumstance. Now, she must sift through each of their pasts to discover exactly what went wrong, how dreams turned to nightmares, how friendships faded and how lives were destroyed.

In this powerful novel, Joy Fielding explores the bonds women forge, the nature of friendships, and the meaning of unconditional love.

I was really intrigued in the beginning, but I lost momentum 3/4 of the way through the book. A group of women meet when their children are young and share their lives. Kind of. There are tragedies that happen (as evidenced by statements in the beginning of the book), but are handled so unrealistically that I had a hard time with them. I found the abused woman's story line totally believable, but not the lawyers...just a meh from me.more
Over a thirty year period the lives of four suburban women who are told. We see them first as young mothers and then as older women who have dealt with adultery, divorce, illnesses and troubled children.more
Nice story about friendship, loyalty and hiding secrets.more
