From the Publisher

This reflection on growing up during the Depression, her college days and later teaching career, is an adaptation of a memoir by Sister Perkins that appeared in an anthology published by Praeger in 2006 (American Students Organize). Perkins provides insight into the impact of the 1928 crash on an urban Irish-American family, and on their attitudes toward education. She recounts her experiences working and belonging to a union in high school , and as a college student at Mundelein and then Rosary colleges, and her involvement in student government, the National Student Association, and the post world war II German Student Seminar Program. She reflects on the role of women in the Catholic Church, her commitment to social justice, what she learned as a teacher, and what she gained from her experiences in the National Student Association.
