Winner of the 2002 Christianity Today Book Award! You’re One Step Away from the Adventure of Your Life. Deep within you lies the same faith and longing that sent Peter walking across the wind-swept Sea of Galilee toward Jesus. In what ways is the Lord telling you, as he did Peter, "Come"? John Ortberg invites you to consider the incredible potential that awaits you outside your comfort zone. Out on the risky waters of faith, Jesus is waiting to meet you in ways that will change you forever, deepening your character and your trust in God. The experience is terrifying. It’s thrilling beyond belief. It’s everything you’d expect of someone worthy to be called Lord. The choice is yours to know him as only a water-walker can, aligning yourself with God’s purpose for your life in the process. There’s just one requirement: If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to Get Out of the Boat.

"Sloth as a spiritual sin is not the same thing as physical laziness. It can co-exist with much busyness. It is the failure to do what needs to be done when it needs doing - like the kamikaze pilot who flew seventeen missions. At its core, sloth consists of 'loss of meaning, purpose, and hope, coupled with indifference to the welfare of others.'"Imposter phenomenon - the sense that people often have of spending too much time and effort trying to conceal their inadequacy from others. Our calling is not so much choosing as it is listening.Honor your "raw material" - persue what you are called or gifted to do. If the assignment I sense God is giving me is something that I can handle, I know it is probably not from God. The kind of assignments God gives in the bible are always God-sized. Is there any challenge in your life right now that is large enough that you have no hope of doing it apart from God's help? If not, consider the possibility that you are seriously underchallanged. We are not called just to work for God. We are called to work with God. Work has become our new religion, where we worship and give our time. Be strong and corageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. - MosesDo you believe that what you pray in the Creed is true?...Then you believe more and better than I. - Martin LutherHow much faith do I need?
