      I just love this series. A school with secret society that protects the world with magic. Sweet! Lily Parker is finally settling in as a Adept. She is learning to control her Firespell when weird like creatures start to roam the halls at St. Sophia's. Now it is up to them to find out what those creatures are...What I love most about the book was the unique story line of it. Even though it may seem the same with the school and of course the hot boys, I love how everything play out well in the book.The romance had just the right touch. Lily's progressing relationship with Jason was sweet and enduring. Even the mysterious of Sebastian made me wonder what exactly is going on. I have a feeling there is something more to the picture than what we see.The secrets learn in this book were dawning. Poor Lily had to grow up fast and learn things the hard way. Even though she is still pretty much in the dark, Lily gets closer every second as she picks up clues as to what her parents are really doing. (I, for one, am waiting for this bomb to drop.)The Dark Elite series is absolutely gripping and definitely a page turner. I could not resist this book and read it quickly. If you haven't pick up this series you need to. This is one book that will rock your reading world.

      WARNING! Spoilers if you have not read Firespell. No spoilers for Hexbound, though.I felt that Hexbound was a vast improvement over Firespell. There was so much more going on, and the story moved a lot faster than the first novel.Lily and the other Adepts are back again to protect Chicago from the evil Reapers. In the second book in this series, there is more violence and more romance. There are a few kissing scenes, and a couple of fight scenes, but nothing is overly-detailed, and the entire novel is still PG. The book has a lot more magic in it as well, which is good because that was seriously lacking in the first book.The main problem in this novel is that there are giant rat looking things in the Pedway in Chicago, and no one knows how they got there. Enter Lily, Scout, Jason, and Michael, who attempt to save the day. Unfortunately, nothing is ever that simple. Not only do Lily and co. have to fight these rat creatures, but they end up in the middle of a vampire turf war as well. Along with vampires, there is also a helpful ghost, and we get to meet two of the Adepts from Enclave Two, Detroit and Naya. They have some pretty cool powers as well. While Lily is dealing with Adept drama, she also has the usual brat-pack drama to deal with. Veronica is obsessed with John Creed, Jason's friend, and she's convinced that Lily and Scout are sneaking out at night to meet him. This complicates things quite a bit. Furthermore, Lily's budding romance with Jason is even more complicated that originally thought. Add that to Sebastian basically stalking Lily's every move, and even more mysteries surrounding her parents, and you have a very intense novel. Lily is being forced to grow up and grow into her powers very quickly, and I spent at least the last half of the book just waiting on her to crack. Scout's character becomes more fleshed out as well, and her outlook has changed a bit since her capture at the end of Firespell. She is deailing with the PTSD that she must be suffering as well as can be expected, but Lily still worries about her. This novel shows Scout's growth as a character and as a spell-binder because she tries many new spells to protect herself. Jason and Sebastian are two very complex characters in this novel, and we get to know them better. A lot of Jason's story is told in this book, and I'm glad about that. I was a bit curious about him, and Neill does an excellent job of telling his story and having it blend in with the rest of the plot. While I love Jason (werewolves are always my favorite), I'm very frustrated with him because of a few things he said at the end of the novel. However, I'm going to give him a chance in Charmfall to see if he redeems himself. Sebastian is another story all together, though. I'm not sure what to think about him. Part of me likes him because I always love a bad boy, but part of me thinks he's in a massive state of denial. I'm going to have to wait to see what happens with him in Charmfall as well before I make up my mind about him.Hexbound left me wishing Charmfall was out right now instead of having to wait until January 3 to buy it. I can't wait to see what happens next to Lily and the rest of the Adepts. This novel is more like the Chicagoland Vampire Series than Firespell was, and I was pleasantly surprised to see this series improve. It was a good idea, and Neill is now executing it perfectly. One more day until I can see what happens next! If you're a Chloe Neill fan, like I am, then you definitely need to check out the Dark Elite series. As an adult reader, I can tell you that even though it's PG YA, it's still worth reading. I didn't feel like the book was too young for me because the characters are fairly mature for their age. So, do yourself a favor, and check this series out today!

      Hexbound is the second book in the Dark Elite series and, hopefully, not the last. It picks up basically right where Firespell left off. It threw me off a bit because the span of time in these two books is relatively short, which I'm not used to.

      The tone of the series remains fun and conversational. Even so, there were times when it felt like it was trying to sound like a teen novel. This doesn't hinder the novel or make it less interesting. It just made me pause a few times. The pop culture references were an instance of this. Would Scout really listen to Lady Gaga? Also, as fads and the popularity of stars fades, a book becomes outdated much more quickly. But that could just be a pet peeve of mine.

      Overall, it's completely enjoyable and I'm happily looking forward to another installment. I recommend this series frequently and will continue to do so.

      I really like this series. I love the friendship and dynamic between Scout and Lily, they are so cute and funny together. I love all of the characters in this series, they are all very vibrant for YA fiction and they stick with you for a long time after you close the cover. I also enjoy the dynamic between Scout and Lily in conjunction with the brat pack and with the boys, Chloe Neill has a wonderful talent for writing excellent relationships.

      The plot, or rather the climax of this book was a tad bit off for me. I had a hard time pinpointing where it was. I was just reading, there was drama, stuff happened, and then the book was done. I didn't get the "oh no, stuff is about to hit the fan" feeling, nor did I get the satisfaction of a nice well rounded ending because of the climactic moment. I am not saying the plot is bad, or that I didn't enjoy it, just something I noticed and I hadn't realized how much book structure meant to me.

      As I said, I enjoyed the characters in this book, and I enjoy the world that Chloe Neill has created and superimposed on our own. I can't wait to see where she takes this series, there are so many things she can do, and so much growing for a lot of the characters. This book also showed us another side of the Dark Elite and I even believe caused Lily to do some doubting of the Adepts. I love the layer of conflict Ms. Neill is setting up for Lily, can't wait to see where she takes that as well.

      Overall this is a short entertaining read and I will definitely keep reading Chloe Neill, she has a lot of stuff to still bring to the table.

In this one, I wanted to learn more about Sebastian and Jason. Sadly, I was left wanting more. Both of the boys do appear in the book, just not as much as I would have liked.We do get to learn more about Scout and Lily. What I like about Neill, is that she isn’t afraid to give her characters flaws. However, she also keeps her characters real. They get to grow and they learn more about their magic.We are introduced to new adepts in this book and new creatures. I emjoyed one of the new adapts and the other, not so much.       Review courtesy of All Things Urban FantasyHEXBOUND picks up just weeks after the end of FIRESPELL, Lily is still learning to control her new power and adjusting to her role as a member of the Dark Elite. As with FIRESPELL, the dialogue is once again fantastic and there is plenty of it. Maybe a little too smart and clever for fifteen/sixteen year olds, but I didn’t care. The romance in HEXBOUND is much better developed than in the previous book. We find out quite a bit more about Jason than just the fact that he’s gorgeous and a werewolf. There’s plenty of believable new relationship angst and uncertainty too. I still had problems with the pacing in this installment, as with the previous book, the plot doesn’t really kick in until the halfway mark. It was also overall a thinner story that provided very little in the way of new info about Lily’s abilities or her parents. We do learn more about Reaper and fellow firespell Sebastian, which added an interesting wrinkle to the black/white, good/bad line that Lily had drawn.Overall, the good from the first book carried over into HEXBOUND, but the not so good carried over too. The dialogue is still super slick, a better romance helped compensate for a slower plot, and a questionable enemy/friend brought a much needed element of conflict that promises to make things even more confusing for Lily (and even better for us) in the next Dark Elite book.Sexual Content: Kissing

      Hexbound picks up a few weeks after where Firespell leaves off. Though both series (Chicagoland Vampire series and Dark Elite; both by Neill) are both set in Chicago, and both deal with the supernatural, it’s still amazing how Chloe Neill makes the books so different from each other.Lily Parker is the main character who finds out she has magic powers after being hit with Firespell in the first book. Her best friend is Scout, spellbinder, who is also an Adept (one of the good power kids) In Hexbound Lily (who has firespell) has joined the Adepts which include Scout’s crush Michael, and Lily’s boyfriend Jason. Michael has power to read buildings, Jason is a werewolf. The enemies of the Adepts are the Reapers. The main one that keeps popping up (but isn’t the supreme bad guy) is Sebastian.Hexbound takes you further into the lives of the underground crime fighters, as well as digging deeper into Lily’s parent’s lives. The relationships grow, and the only thing I have complaints in that department is that the Lily/Jason thing is so unclear for most of the book, are they together or not? They kiss and whatnot sure, but they haven’t been on a date and Lily still acts like they aren’t together. But you get to learn more about Jason which is nice. And equally nice you get to see more of Sebastian.Hexbound takes you into the tunnels to battle new evil, and lands the gang in the middle of a vampire turf war. More St. Sophia Brat Pack, and more importantly more interaction between Scout and Lily, because they always have kick-ass friendship chemistry. Another beautiful cover as well. An excellent read, the only down side is having to wait so long for the next installment to come out.

      (YA) This book takes off from where the last book finished. Scout and Lily are still in school, still fighting the Reapers, but new evil's come and really challenge the team. Vampires that are not the sparkly sweet hearts from other YA books and something just gross and unknown to our heros. They have to figure out haw to live through this, what they are trying is not working. Jason and Lily continue to develop a relationship, but some truths are revealed that may end it all. I am most interested in Sebastian's future role in the story.
      This 2nd book was much better than the first. I am looking forward to the third
