Winslow Nicholas

Winslow Nicholas began writing at an early age, film scripts, plays, science fiction, and children’s books, when he was about 17 years of age. In the early 1980’s he entered into the world of children’s story tapes (on cassette). One of his first releases was a children's story adventure “Pineapple in Candyland” (Barbara Short), which was narrated by TV Personality Sally James, famous for the Saturday morning children’s TV show, Tiswas, which starred the raven-haired goddess James and, most famously, Lenny Henry, together with presenter of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Chris Tarrant. The late showbiz wizard, Bob Monkhouse, was first offered the job of reading the children's story, Pineapple in Candyland, but his agent baulked at the fee which was offered at the time, stating that it was much too low! (I was a poor student! What did he expect?) Subsequently, after some tough negotiating, Sally James agreed to narrate the talking book. Apparently she accepted a fee which was slightly higher than that first offered to Mr Monkhouse!Later on in the early 1990’s whilst talking with the director of Foyles Bookshop in London, about a window display for the storytapes, he suggested to Winslow to get into diet and health books, as they were big business at the time. By the mid 1990’s Winslow had written his first serious book for publication “A Caribbean Diet.” His literary agent almost secured a deal with a major publisher, but the industry was going through some changes at the time, and then his agent decided to join the QE2 liner and concentrate on her book selling side of the business on the ship. This prompted him to try this publishing thing himself. He printed 5,000 copies of A Caribbean Diet, secured a distribution deal with Exel Logistics (UK), who managed to spread the book around, although rather thinly indeed... one copy to waterstones, a couple to W H Smith etc,. Eventually, Exel had a shake-up and takeover... He was left with a pallet load of books, unceremoniously dumped in his front garden, outside his flat. A large number were donated to Great Ormond Street Children’s Charity, and Oxfam, and others sold on via mail order.Later on that year he completed his second book, “Shape Up with Karatics,” a diet and exercise book based on a system of exercises from his favourite sport, Karate, (as he was a Black Belt, European Champion at the time). He wasn’t about to repeat the same costly mistakes of the past, so he decided to abandon costly print and enter into the cheaper world of ebooks. For the past few years Winslow has been writing and selling his books through independent publishing platforms such as Smashwords and Createspace on Amazon. He has written 10 books to date (some will be available from Smashwords soon), and he is currently working on his 11th book.

    FOREWORD

Do you believe that you are already dead, and life is merely a replay in order to correct our sins? What makes you think that you are already dead and no longer on the earth plane? What makes you think that you are alive right now? How will you know when you are dead, because in most cases you never know when you are dreaming until you actually wake up? Why are we here, and what do you do while you are here on this earth? Is there a God? If so, why does he allow such bad things to happen to us, and why does he not intervene to prevent these things and other catastrophes that occur around the world?

You have made the decision to read this book so I presume that you express some interest in the subject of the afterlife, and indeed the spirit world. Many books have been written on this subject, some of them are quite long and boring, and certainly difficult to follow, as many have been designed for people who already possess some knowledge of the afterlife. These readers are also considered to be familiar with many of the terms and explanations used by authors in such books.

A Layman’s Guide to the Spirit World is aimed to give you an insight into the afterlife and the spiritual realms, in simple layman’s terms, without the long drawn out explanations and descriptions, which makes the book far more interesting and easier to follow. This book is concise and compact, as it will enlighten you with only the relevant facts without baffling you with esoteric phrases, so you may not need to keep referring to your dictionary. Once you have read the entire book it will seem easy to remember and recall certain points with ease, and you will feel the added benefit of the newly acquired knowledge, insight, and wisdom about the understanding of spiritual matters. You will certainly feel at ease with questions which are always left unanswered, such as those which relate to subjects about the purpose of our existence on the earth plane, what it is really like in the spiritual realms, and is mankind heading in the right direction… towards doom and gloom, or utopia.

    Chapter 1

    Death Does not Exist

When I was about 12 years of age, I was strolling in my school field with two friends. We were walking slowly away from the school building towards a row of houses in the distance. We stopped and started to mess around, kicking stones and taking idle talk, just as typical 12 year olds did at the time. I suddenly looked towards the houses in the distance with a vague expression on my face. Squinting my eyes, and in deep thought, I suddenly said to my friends, something like, Do you see those houses over there, if you were looking at those houses, and you died, you would still see those houses! My friends looked at me as if I was crazy and then they both declared vehemently that I was totally insane. They walked away and left me there in the middle of the field still staring at the houses, in a confound state. I surprised myself at the statement I had just made, and I pondered for a while wondering who or what had influenced me to make it.

Five years later sadly one of those friends had a fatal accident whilst working at high level in the local automobile factory. Some days after the funeral, I was lying in bed when suddenly I heard a tapping sound coming from an orange toolbox on the top of my wardrobe. I was surprised, as the sound was so distinctive, and near. It was clearly coming from the metal box as if it was being tapped with a metal object or fingernail. I decided to make an attempt to communicate with it by replicating the rhythm on my bedpost, and then I changed the rhythm by adding an extra tap. The response was the same. I concluded that it was indeed my departed friend attempting to communicate with me from the other side, simply to corroborate the fact that I was correct about what I had said five years earlier in the school field.

We are able to continue using all of our senses immediately after death; this is a known fact. Nothing is inhibited or lost when we cross over to the other side. It is quite true that death does not exist. There is no death, although many people would disagree with this, however, when you look at it more closely it begins to make more sense.

You need to forget the notion that you are alive and just a mere organic creature who lives on this earth, and when you die that’s the end. No more you because you have stopped breathing and your body will cease to function. I’m sure that you are quite aware of the functions of the human body, obviously I’m not assuming that your knowledge extends far beyond that of the man in the street, and that you are a doctor or therapist, or this book would not be a layman’s guide. But I assume that you posses some awareness of the complexity of the human body and that you understand the importance of its remarkable workings, such as the brain for instance. If man could create such a complex organism would he not design it to last forever, or do you think he would he spend all that time and effort on something so remarkable and complex just to last only a few years?

Let us consider the three main components of the human being, the mind, the body, and the spirit. Now where have you heard this said before? It could be the fact that almost every civilization on the face of the planet, throughout all history, have recognized and, to this day, still support and accept the concept of the three divisions of the human form, the mind, the body, and the spirit. In Indian mysticism it is believed that the human being consists of three main bodies; these are the physical body, the astral body, and the second spirit body called the casual body. These three bodies correspond with the body, mind, and soul. They maintain that the Physical body functions in the waking state, and the astral body in the dream state, and the casual body in the deep sleep state. They also believe that it is the spirit (casual body) that exists throughout incarnations, and the physical body, together with the mind, are both renewed at each new birth.

You know and you are fully aware that you have a mind because you use it each and every day to think. Your body works because you are aware of it and in control of its many functions. And your spirit… what’s that? Did you say you are a sceptic? You don’t believe that you have a spirit, perhaps because you are unable to see it and feel it? Let me put it this way, your spirit is the most important aspect of all of the three components, as it is the life force and it conveys all the information from your mind and all the experiences from your body. Yes, sensations and all. This I can prove!

Can you recall the last dream that you had? Have you ever had one where you were somewhere nice, doing something that you liked very much, no, not that, let’s keep it clean… or any other normal everyday activity that you perform while you are awake. The dream was so real that the only way you knew it was a dream, and not real life, was when you actually woke up. During the dream you were able to feel, you could smell odours for real, you could see real objects and talk to people, you even felt emotions such as love, anger, excitement, fear etc. Where do you think these feelings come from... not the body, because the body is lying down in the bed with all its senses shut down, and its eyes closed! The body is almost in a dead state whilst in this condition. It is resting in order to conserve energy whilst regenerating.

What about the mind, is it busy generating all those visual images, do you think? Well if you believe that this is the case, let’s see if you can replicate the exact same experience right now this minute whilst you are wide awake, and reading this book! Close your eyes and think of the same dream. Can you see the same vivid colours, or feel the same real sensations just as you did in your dream?

I remember clearly one night I had a dream, I was standing somewhere outside talking to somebody I knew. I was proving to them that this life is real by constantly wrapping my knuckles against a brick wall. It’s real! It’s real! I repeated several times. As far as I was concerned, I was alive and well, banging my hand against a brick wall in broad daylight, as I strongly believed I could not possibly be dreaming; the whole experience was far too real for that. Well, so I thought until, to my astonishment, I suddenly woke up from a deep sleep, and realized that I had been lying in bed asleep all along. I was shocked at first because the experience was so real, and the sudden transition from one state to another was like being transported between two totally different worlds. If I had expired in my sleep during my dream I would not have been aware of anything different, only to continue not realizing that my spirit had just left my body
