A call from the wealthy neighborhood. Gangsters and money laundering. The victim's son, who was the original money-launderer, his sister, her boyfriend, another ex-hood, a scheme, a couple million in cash in the freezer. Quite a bit, but not enough. The victim's daughter-in-law is beautiful and cultured, which none of the others are.
Nick meets Pancho DeGulio, reputed to be the biggest biggie in the world in the underworld. He also meets a DEA officer who he feels is slimier than any of the people he goes after.
b The Wedding
Nick marries Jan. Pancho gives them a place on Martinique as a wedding present. They spend their honeymoon there and return to find Pancho has been charged with murder. That crooked DEA officer is behind it, somehow. So is the one who was convicted of the murder in Better Never Than Late.
