Women of Power - LaVerne Floyd-Mitchell
Introduction
This book has been inside of me and I did not even know it, but because of the Love of Father God it has now been birthed! Wow! I am well over fifty years old now and I thank Father God that this baby was not aborted! Not until the fourth decade of my life in conversation with Apostle Dr. Diane Clark, did I faintly think about writing a book. Prior to that time, writing a book was probably as farfetched as my childhood thoughts of me ever traveling from my home state of Florida to California.
As farfetched as it was in my child-like mind, a trip to California became a reality; so then why did I not think authoring a book would become a reality? There is more than one answer to this question. One answer is I had an identity crisis. Yes, born again, jumping and shouting, loving the Lord with an identity crisis. Based on what I know, my generational blood line history included church goers but not born again believers, ministers, evangelists or preachers. Therefore, outside of going to church, the essence of Godly influence and true Godly living, sanctification was very absent in my life. Actually, the times that I heard the word sanctified
used, it held a negative connotation. To God be the glory for drawing me to his plan of salvation through his Son Jesus: as a result the legacy of salvation, sanctification, holiness, and preachers are birthed in my generation. I received Jesus Christ in my heart as my Lord and Savior in my early twenties. I heard in many sermons about God’s love, read plenty of books and even read the scriptures about the love of God; but I had not fully received his love, nor did I know the depth of his love for me. Someone said to me recently that my generation, baby boomers fear abandonment because a lot of us were war babies and our fathers were absent from the home because they were fighting the war. In addition, during that time period making a living could have been the reason a father was not in the home, as was the case with my dad. As a matter of fact, he was in South America on a fishing boat the day I was born, not returning until three weeks later.
Empirical research has shown and proven that infancy bonding from the father strengthens relationships between fathers and their children. Fathers influence their children’s intellectual, sexual and emotional development. Should that bonding process not occur, life’s journey and processing can be perceived as complicated for many. Don’t get it twisted, I am by no means disregarding or bashing my father. My parents did the best they could with what they had and I love them. Truth of the matter is, relating to Jesus in the presence or absence of my Father was easy. After all, the Sunday school cards always had a picture of a man smiling with little children around him; everybody seemed happy. Yes Jesus Loves Me was the theme song for my age group at church and at school. Indeed we had a Christian theme song at school because in those times, prayer was a part of the public school system. My point is the concept of accepting Jesus was easy, he was talked about on a regular basis. On the other hand, God the Father was not referenced nearly as much, especially not as Father. So then, if your biological Father was absent and the closet song relating to God was He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands, how could you embrace the idea of a Father’s love? Hence, this is the basis for the whole issue of my identity crisis. Of course there is a lot more that goes along with this, but it is for another book at another time. Wow! Listen at that, another book. Once you have one baby the idea of being pregnant again comes easy. The chances of me meeting every woman that reads this book personally, are pretty slim, therefore wherever you’ve decide to settle down and read just imagine that I am there with you sharing my heart with you my friend. It is my prayer that any woman that reads this book will be inspired, motivated, and empowered to move toward or live fully in her purpose. Above all don’t despise your process in life (embrace the process). While you were created a woman of power your processes makes you powerful.

To my Great-grandmamma, Sarah Sing
Harris, thank you for your great sacrifice of labor and love that you so unselfishly gave to raise me. I hope you are in heaven looking down on me smiling because of the woman I have become. Your hands help to shape and mold my life.
My founding Pastor, Rev. Dennis R. Bean, thank you for the foundation in Holiness that you taught and lived before me. I look forward to thanking you personally in eternity.
Dedication
This book is dedicated to my beautiful grandchildren, Charity and Keira Thompson and Jayren Pollard. The three of you have forever changed my life. At one point I was not sure if I would have grandchildren, so I began to pray. Seven years of faith and prayer and now you are here. I am grateful to the Lord that you were born at this time in my life. You are like my ice cream and my cake. I love you! Big Mama!
