Sophie, a young girl from Trinidad, whose playboy artist father deserted her mother before she was born goes to England to try to find him. Her enquiries quickly and unexpectedly lead her to a half brother, Eddie, who she didn't know she had; he and his mother had been similarly deserted and the two young people join forces to track down the father they'd never met. In parallel, a hunt for the killers of three murder victims, led by Detective Chief Inspector 'Foxy' Reynard of Sussex C.I.D., is under way. As he closes on the murderer it becomes obvious his investigation is linked to the hunt in which Sophie and Eddie are engaged.
