Spring Rains
Chapter One
Winter winds had passed their howling voices. As clouds grow heavy with rain. Spring
time blooms that cast their flowering choices. The seeds of life are magically lain. Booming, crashing streaks of lightning lace the laden skies. Thunderous clouds of swirling mist force down their watery flows. Spilling out among the hearth below. Melting any left over winter snow. Turning the frozen earth to mud soaked lands. Pouring out from clouded showers. While life beneath begins to grow. The creeks, ditches, streams and rivers were flooded with the winter thaws and the relentless pounding of the spring rains. Drowning out any residual cold that may still be lingering in the air. Trees and plants were coming to life as the new green pushed up through the tainted ground.
Along the Huron river a small clump of bluish iridescent light floated along with the currents of the river. Twisting and turning through shallows and deep. Unaffected by the cold, damp and tyrant waves of water that further pushed them downstream. They were in no hurry. But with the flooding, their journey was made that much easier.
The city of Monroe sits smack dab in the middle of Detroit and Toledo. A serene town with old greedy money, lawyers, judges and persecution. But a nice town in the sense of the historical value it held. General Custer, the battle of Alamo among other historical landmarks. And no doubt a Catholic drudge driven providence. With its downtown St. Mary's park. The town took time and spared no expense to build a river walk. So the residents and tourists alike, could enjoy the beautiful Raisin river. A walkway bridge was built from the park over the river and down along side of the water, for the foot bound pedestrians who wished to enjoy the river up close. Now enjoyed by thousands.
Richard paced back and forth trying to keep his composure, waiting for his little brother to catch up to him. They had their fishing poles and were excited to try them out. Tackle box in hand, little Greg caught up to his older brother who waited patiently with restlessness. Neither were supposed to be down by the waters edge unless an adult was present. But it was a warm day and they just couldn't wait. So they hurried, hoping they would not be missed for an hour or two.
Richard took the tackle box from his brothers hand. Opened it up and pulled out his favorite lure. He tied it onto the line of his pole just like his father had shown him. Then tied one onto his brothers pole. He picks up his pole and with an arching swing, he casts his lure out into the pulling currents. He watched as his line floated with the currents.
His little brother Greg cast his pole best he could and they sat down to wait for some hoped miracle.
Chapter Two
She pulled up and quickly got out. Grabbing her things as she went. Already running late for work, she rushed inside the restaurant. Clocked in and threw her apron on around her waist and checked the schedule for her tables. She rushed to the back to grab a tray and headed out to wait on her customers. She enjoyed her job, but always found it hard to be on time. Not because she slept late in or anything. No, it was because of the guy she was dating. He was always keeping her longer than she wanted. Or maybe it was she who didn't want to leave him.
Hi my name is Lara, and I'll be your waitress today. Can I get you anything to drink?
Yes, we'll just have coffee please. Thank you.
The guest said.
Okay, I'll be right back. Here's a menu.
She placed the menu in front of each guest, then turned to go to the next table. Then off to get the two orders of drinks and wait till they were both ready to order their meals.
Hey Lara, what's up with that cute guy you've been seeing? Why haven't I seen him around?
Tina asked.
Mm...You mean Aaron?
Aah, yes.
He moved here from California. We've been friends for a few months. Why?
Cu z he's cute and if you're just friends then...
She trailed off. I don't think so.
Lara returned as she turned with her tray in hand, picked up the two sodas and two cups of coffee. Tina stood staring at her.
Lara put in her shift and busted out as soon as she was able. The night had closed in on her as she left the restaurant. She walked to her car, talking with Tina and her other friends, then parted ways as they went off to their own cars. Lara walked up to her car and was surprised by the gift that was placed under her windshield wiper blade. She lifted the wiper and pulled out the small bag. Opened her car door and got in. She sat staring at the bag for a moment then opened it up. Looking inside she found a giant size candy bar in her favorite flavor. And a card. He had slipped into the parking lot and surprised her. Her heart was racing as she opened her cell phone and sent a text message that read; 'Thanks I love the gift, your the greatest. Hope 2 c u soon.'
She set her cell phone down as she started the car and looked up as a light sprinkle of rain began to glitter her windows. She turned on some music, then put the car into gear, backed out of the parking spot and headed off toward home. She crossed the overpass and made the trek back across town. She heard her phone going off, picked it up and flipped it open. It was a text message from Aaron. ' Anything 4 u. But I'm lonely. Could u stop by for a smidgen?' She texts back, ' Only 4 a little bit.' She found his street and parked out front of his house. It had already began raining harder. But he was waiting at the door with an umbrella and ran out to meet her. They went in and she hugged him at the door before they went up stairs.
Hey you,
Hey, how did work go?
Okay. Thanks for the little gift and card. That was sweet of you.
"You know your always welcome. Oh, I've got a new movie you just might want to see.
The one I've been wanting to see?
Yep
Yeah, can we watch it?
Thought you were only gonna stay for a little bit
But I want to see the movie
She pouted.
You might be late
That's okay, I can sleep in tomorrow.
Okay then, movie it is.
He took her hand and led her upstairs and into his room.
She kicked off her shoes and dropped her purse on the floor. Ran over and jumped onto the bed
