Chapter 1: Introduction
This book will forever alter the way you view the concepts of health, healthcare, and your own body. The ideas presented here are simple yet profound – truths that have been forgotten by many in our advanced
yet disempowered society.
To begin, I want to state that I am not a medical professional and have no advanced degrees or certifications, nor do I claim to be an authority on health. If you are looking to be told what to do, there certainly is no dearth of professionals with a string of letters after their names who will be more than happy to oblige. My approach to wellness is much broader in perspective, as well as rather unconventional. It includes applying various practices, but the core idea is to fundamentally alter the way we perceive ourselves and our bodies.
My credentials
are a lifelong interest and decades of research in health, fitness, nutrition, psychology, personal growth, spirituality, and metaphysics, which led me to seek information about the keys to staying healthy throughout life. Mind-body interactions, intuition, energy healing, and paranormal phenomena fascinated me long before they came into vogue.
Professionals with extensive medical or scientific training and certifications have a vested interest in limiting their ideas to the tenets of those belief systems. When faced with new information that fundamentally shifts the paradigm in one's area of expertise, it is natural to resist change, particularly when one has incorporated those beliefs so deeply that they seem like truths. I am fortunate to have the freedom to stretch the boundaries of currently accepted scientific dogma without jeopardizing my professional standing.
In my own version of a medical disclaimer, I would like to make it clear that I am simply sharing my views, not telling people how to live their lives. A fundamental concept of my philosophy is that each of us is responsible for our own well-being. If we choose to follow someone's advice (whether that person is a doctor, an author, or a stranger on the street), we are responsible for that decision. This idea flies in the face of the victim mentality so prevalent in our over-litigated society. Yet, until we accept full responsibility for our bodies and our lives, we will continue to align with widely held beliefs that lead to results we don't prefer.
It is crucial to recognize and heed your beliefs rather than ignoring or denying them. Some of the health-related ideas I discuss are not appropriate for certain individuals because they conflict with their beliefs. Use the ideas that are appropriate for you and set aside any that are not. As in all areas of your life, where health is concerned, follow your inner guidance.
When I present a product or practice as preferable to others, please keep in mind that the recommendation is based on a belief rather than an absolute truth. All such recommendations (regardless of the source) are based on beliefs. The crucial factor is
