About this ebook
Dr. Kimberly Donovan’s life is in shambles. After her medical ethics are questioned, first her family, then her closeted lover, the Chief of the ER, betray her. Determined to make a fresh start, she flees to California and L.A. Metropolitan Hospital.
Dr. Jess McKenna, L.A. Metro’s Chief of the ER, gives new meaning to the phrase emotionally guarded, but she has her reasons.
When Kim and Jess meet, the attraction is immediate. Emotions Jess has tried to repress for years surface. But her interest in Kim also stirs dark memories. They settle for friendship, determined not to repeat past mistakes, but secretly they both wish things could be different.
Will the demons from Jess’s past destroy their future before it can even get started? Or will L.A. Metro be a place to not only heal the sick, but to mend wounded hearts?

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wonderful story and doesn't have some of the usual / expected problems in the romance. Shows what true friendships are made of and how adults behave.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5One of RJ Nolan’s best novels with intriguing characters, taut plot, dramatic ER life-and-death cases, and an initially troubled romance in which honesty and love finally prevail. You laugh, you cry. You’ll love the sizzle, the Great Dane, near crash-and-burn missteps, then the soaring finish.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Nice slowburn. This was a cute story. It did have it's slower parts but I enjoyed it.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I was of two minds about this novel. It's the story of Kim and Jess. Kim is a new staff psychiatrist at LA Metro. She's come from a hospital in Detroit and left it in not a good way, personally and professionally.Jess it the Head of the ER at LA Metro and considered quite the Ice Queen. But, she too has a lot in her past that's not sunshine and puppies. As they say a couple of times in the novel, they're quite the pair.On the less great side, a lot of the book seemed sort of repetitive. One step forward, two back in the relationship between the two women. Over and over. And that made some parts of the book really, really drag.On the other hand, a lot of the characters really jumped off the page (I won't say I 'liked' all the characters, but, I liked some and disliked others where appropriate). From Penny to Terrell to Peter they were all very interesting and unique. And, of course, there was Sam. I can't wait to read the next book in the series to have more of her character (I think it's about her). Oh, and, how could I almost forget Thor. As a person who is deathly afraid of all mid-sized and big dogs (and wary of the smaller ones) his character took me a little while to get used to, but, I did love how he was written by the end of the book.
