    Peggy stood in line, with what felt like five thousand other girls who looked exactly like her, their portfolio’s clutched in their hands. There were a lot of differences between Shanghai - China, and her hometown of Toronto - Canada. Since her mother-agency had sent her over here a month ago, to boost her modeling career, her head was reeling with culture shock. But the one thing that made her feel at home was the go-sees; they were probably the same across the galaxy. Specs were sent out and agencies sent — en masse — all their girls who fit that description, to the go-see, where they stood in a long line, got 3 photos snapped of them, handed in their comp cards, and went home; a wait that was often hours long just for about 15 seconds of being seen in front of the camera.

    Peggy was lucky today, as the call was for redheads, and so there weren’t that many to be sent. Still, she had been in line almost 45 minutes before she neared the front, where she could actually see what was going on.

    It seemed the same process as normal. The girls handed the assistant their comp card, who checked their name off the list, and then stepped in front of the camera, posed full on and in both profiles, and then moved on. There were a few other people milling around, probably clients or photography assistants, and she focused her eyes on the front, waiting for her turn.

    A door opened beside her, and someone muttered
