Atascadero! is a One-Act Farce adapted by H.D. Greaves from Hans Christian Andersen’s folktale, The Swineherd. This version takes place in Brazil and tells of the handsome Prince Paolo of Ipanema who falls in love with the beautiful Princess Miranda of Bahia. Unfortunately, Miranda’s beauty is only skin-deep. Insulting her own father, mistreating her ladies-in-waiting, and rudely refusing Paolo’s wonderful gifts, the Prince, to teach her manners, becomes a swineherd. Taking with him two magical toys, which he knows will entice the Princess to misbehave in most alarming ways (and with most unexpected consequences), he’s ready—with the gleeful help of the pigs!—to stir up a lot of mischief in the pigpen.
