About

Summary

The spiritual journey of life often brings seasons of fasting and prayer. It is in this season God wants to speak to your soul in a special way. Fasting is not always about getting something from God as much as it is what you are becoming in Him. This small book is a twenty-one day devotional guide to help you have a consistent pattern of devotions through a time of prayer. It is a book of spiritual challenge where each day you will be encouraged to allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. This will be a great spiritual season for you as you seek the face of God. This can be done as an individual study or with a group. It was originally written for an entire church as they went through a corporate time of fasting and prayer. The book will provide a small group something to discuss as they encourage each other to remain faithful on our spiritual journey of life.

Fasting Information

Daniel 1:11-16

Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, ‘Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink. Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see.’ So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days. At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food. So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead.

Daniel 10:2-3

At that time I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks. I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over.

Key to Success #1: Be Specific

Daniel was not vague in his objection to the Babylonians. In chapter 1 he was direct in his acknowledgement of his dependence and need upon God for understanding and direction.

Key to Success #2: Fasting is a Spiritual Commitment

The Daniel Fast involves a spiritual commitment to God. Daniel proposed in his heart that he would not defile himself (Daniel 1:8).

Key to Success #3: Commit to Outer Discipline for Spiritual Victories

Four important factors:

1.God uses food in fasting because the discipline of the body leads to spiritual disciplines.

2.The level of your spiritual commitment is reflected by prayer during a fast.

3.Determine to keep your commitment of time given to a fast.

4.Commit to a spiritual purpose. A fast is a statement of faith to God that you are dependent upon Him. Faith is the foundation a period of fasting is built upon.

Key to Success #4: Searching our own souls

Psalm 139:23-24

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Key to Success #5: Seek God’s Kingdom on Earth as it is Heaven

Is my life focused on a close walk with God? Fasting brings the body under subjection that we may whole-heartedly follow God’s designed will for us as taught in the Holy Scriptures.

Matthew 6:33

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

We Pray, …Your kingdom come Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven...

Isaiah 58:6

Is not this the fast that I have chosen to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?

Key to Success #6: Yield All Results to God

Revelation 5:12 The Song Believers Lear to Sing

Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!

Remember, This is the song of heaven and God desires we learn the tune down here before we sing the song up there!

Note from Pastor before starting the devotions:

One of the greatest disciplines we can learn as believers is to bring our bodies under subjection in order to enlarge our souls. We live in a day of secularism; materialism and seduction at every turn. A Christian needs great spiritual discipline to live in victory. The Bible gives pictures of believers being farmers on one hand and soldiers on another. This life will require the patience of a farmer as we work to build God’s kingdom. It will also take the militant courage of soldiers to stand
