      SWEET TORTURE

      Sarah Taylor tugged on the hem of her blouse as she walked down the street toward the large group of protesters. The humid weather made the flimsy chiffon fabric stick to her skin. Why had she even worn such a sheer garment to an anti-gay demonstration, anyway? As if she didn’t get enough attention from haters and gay activists for being one of the most outspoken anti-gay demonstrators, she felt as if everyone was staring at her practically see-through shirt.

      She had no idea how long the protest would last that day, but she hoped they would successfully prevent the next bill from passing that would legalize gay marriages in the state. She had announced the protest on her widely read blog and was glad to see that so many of her fans had shown up to support the cause.

      Suddenly, there was the sound of a large screech behind her. The smell of burnt rubber stung her nostrils. The rev of an engine. She turned to see a white van approach. It braked next to her, stirring up dust. She coughed and waved the air in front of her face, and kept walking. It was probably some of her biggest fans stopping to praise her work. She was used to things like this. People either hated her for her principles, or worshipped her because of them.

      The van’s side door swung open. Sarah jumped back to avoid being hit. Someone--a petite figure dressed all in black--jumped out of the van and grabbed Sarah’s arm to keep her from falling. She was momentarily grateful, but gave a loud shriek as she was yanked full-bodied into the vehicle. She fell onto her stomach, bracing herself with her hands. Behind her, the door slammed shut.

      I’ve got her! a woman shouted. Go, go, go!
