Introduction
Bed Bugs. Everyone hates them, even if they’ve never seen one. If you pay any attention to the media, (and who can avoid it?), you have heard or read that bed bugs are an epidemic that will surely kill us all. Well, they’re bad all right, but maybe not that bad.
The resurgence of bed bugs has created significant concern in the pest management industry and in society overall. Controlling this pest is extremely difficult, and total eradication may be nearly impossible.
This book was written to educate you, the reader, about bed bugs. How do you identify them? How do you know if you’ve been bitten by one (or two!)? How do you protect yourself from ever encountering the nasty little pests in the first place? If you need professional help, who do you go to and what will they do?
Read on, and you’ll find out.
I’ve tried to include everything you need to know about Cimex lectularius, the common bed bug. Yes, there are pictures, and no, they’re not always pleasant to look at. But you need to see what bed bugs and bed bug bites look like, so there are pictures included that will help you.
There are a number of sources for additional information about bed bugs in particular, and pest control in general. One of these is the Pest Management Blog which I moderate. If you have questions about bed bugs, or bugs in general, please visit.
My hope is that this book will answer some questions about bed bugs and that after reading it you’ll be better educated and feel more confident that you understand the real story - not the exaggerated, over-hyped, and sometimes extra-dramatic media version.
