The Making of the Potterverse is an in-depth look at the making of the Harry Potter phenomenon. The book chronicles JKR's rise from single mother to pop culture icon, from the time she published Sorcerer's Stone to David Hayman purchasing the movie rights to the release of Deathly Hallows. The depth made the book. While the book was good I felt it lacked something. It's hard to write about the Potter fandom without mentioning the fans, fan Web sites, podcasts, and fan conferences. It's also hard to say this book was "comprehensive" since it didn't include the release of Deathly Hallows or the revelation that Dumbledore is gay.

If you are looking for a book on the creative process that went into making the book or movies, keep looking. This book presents the events surrounding book releases, publishing, movie making, etc. It is almost entirely factual presentations, quoting heavily from Salon.com, with little information about the writing process. Also, this book ends in February 2007, which seems insane to me. The movie and last book were both released in the summer; why not wait and include all that? Overall, this is a very linear, factual account of what happened in between the release of the first book and the ten years that followed.
