From the Publisher

At the centre of the critically acclaimed Fox drama House, British actor Hugh Laurie has become the focus of fans across North America, Britain, and Australia. Winner of the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Dramatic Series, honoured by the Queen with an Order of the British Empire, and one of People’s Sexiest Men Alive, Laurie has become an icon.

But who is the man behind the cane and acerbic wit? A musician? A motorcyclist? A comedian?

Laurie is all these things and more. This biography aims to shed light on his childhood struggles to live up to his mother’s high demands and emulate his father’s accomplishments as a doctor and an Olympic gold medalist; his education at the prestigious academies of Eton and Cambridge; his comedic career with Emma Thompson, Stephen Fry, and Rowan Atkinson; his own personal struggle with depression; and how he came to be the best-loved curmudgeon on television. Interviews with creator and executive producer David Shore will reveal the Canadian connection to this truly global show and how a Canuck from London, Ontario, made the move to Hollywood stardom.

The House That Hugh Laurie Built will also serve as a magnifying glass, providing episode analysis, cast biographies, selections of Dr. House’s caustic wit, and production bloopers and medical mistakes that only a sleuth like Dr. House could expose.

First Listen: RaeLynn, 'WildHorse'

It was all too easy to paint the recent era of carousing country jams with a broad, dismissive brush. Reworking familiar tropes has always been central to country songwriting, so it wasn't merely the presence of repetition that rankled. More off-putting was the sense that there was little in the performances, the production or the songs themselves to make the commonplace tropes feel personalized or particular. Since then, it's been heartening to hear a number of rising millennial acts quietly exploring the possibilities of textural details and autobiographical postures. Sam Hunt's certainly gr

Music Magazine: Sergio Mendoza, Vinyl Collectors And Tejano Punks On Film

Now and then, Alt.Latino offers programs that feature a single artist in conversation about life, art and anything else on their mind. But if we waited to speak with all of the artists who catch our attention one week at a time, it would take ... well, a long time. So this week, we offer three shorter profiles of artists — some DJs, a musician and a pair of filmmakers — who are capturing Latino culture in three very distinct forms. Sarah Ventre, from NPR Member station KJZZ in Tucson, Ariz., conducts a great Q&A with Tucson musician Sergio Mendoza. He talks about his love for 1940s-style mambo

When Will 'The Handmaid's Tale' Episode 5 Be Released On Hulu?

Sorry, avid viewers of The Handmaid's Tale — the Hulu series is now officially on a weekly schedule. That's no reason to sell out a handmaid friend to an Eye for a pirated version of the next episode though. Anticipation, albeit of what will happen next in an awful dystopian, totalitarian society can inspire happiness, just like waiting to open presents on Christmas morning.  Thankfully the payoff is almost here, as each new episode of The Handmaid's Tale drops on Wednesday nights at 12 a.m. Eastern. Praise be! For anyone who's not caught up, here's a brief recap of what happened in episode fo
