With Carlo Ancelotti the latest manager to exit Stamford Bridge unceremoniously, the stage is set fair for the arrival of young pretender Andre Villas-Boas. It’s a disaster waiting to happen. But, as is often the case, glorious unpredictability looms large and this latest series of Chelsea Chronicles details, from a fans perspective, the visceral highs and lows as the managerial pendulum swings too and fro and the Blues go gathering cups in May.

Villas-Boas, Di Matteo, Benitez. Despite becoming Champions of Europe and records tumbling, there is a sense of injustice and frustration which was conveyed to Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich in the form of an open letter and that can be found here along with tributes to Frank Lampard, Mikel John Obi and terrace legend Peter Webb.

Chelsea Chronicles volume three concludes with the return of Jose Mourinho and the tragic death of Uti Thakkar, aka Sir Larry, who was an integral part of the Gate 17 crew and featured in many articles and books that Mark has written over the years.
