What is the Bike For?
Ah, adventure. Open vistas, thick forests, monkeys. Adventure motorcycling has become all the rage, with aluminum side cases, full body space suits, and knobby tires steadily replacing the leather chaps and chrome at bike nights and coffee shops.
If you are looking to purchase an adventure bike there are some things you need to choices you need to make between various models and styles. Before even walking into the show room you need to have a serious moment and ask yourself What am I going to use this bike for?
I went to an adventure expo. It was mostly the four wheeled (or more) crowd, but there was a strong motorcycle segment and many of the presentations and talks were aimed at two wheelers. As the event was ending and I was packing up, I was talking to my neighbors about what they thought.
They had been disappointed; they weren't interested in All that stuff about other countries
and were mainly interested in learning more about trips lasting a couple weeks, maybe a long cross country road trip.
