Ted Stetson is a member of SFWA. He was born in Brooklyn and raised on Long Island and went to Seton Hall and Hofstra. He graduated from the University of St. Thomas, Houston, Texas. He was awarded First Place by the Florida Literary Arts Council and First Place in the Lucy B. McIntire contest of the Poetry Society of Georgia. God of Tomorrow
A dust devil spiraled through a rusted junkyard and lifted up a small piece of plastic bottle. The bottle sailed through the air and hit the on-off switch on a FIXIT model # X2221 series B switching the robotic on.
The dented gray mechanical man didn't move. He lay against the rusted remains of a washing machine. A red led in his forehead glowed brighter as the solar plates in his dome head soaked up sunlight. That night just before sunset his head moved a little. His two-camera lens eyes opened and tried to focus. His lenses were dirty and after several tries, his lens-wash aperture cleaned them. He inspected the desolate landscape in front of him.
Where am I?
His batteries were not fully charged and his head tilted down as he went into hibernation mode.
An hour after sunrise the next morning the robots head moved again. His neck squeaked when actuated. Once he had lubricated his plasti-steel components, he turned his head left and right, and surveyed the area.
A junkyard,
he said his voice mechanism
