This is a collection of seventeen short stories concerning a little girl called Teeny who spent her preschool childhood on her grandfather’s small farm in the countryside, away from the danger of Hitler’s threatened invasion.
Her Daddy is away fighting in the war and he wants to know that Teeny and her Mummy are safe away from the German bombers. Teeny’s years on the farm turn out to be very happy, living a life as normal as Wartime permits.
Each story is simply and encompasses an everyday incident, such as A Busy Day, A Calf in the Kitchen, Chicks, Baking Day, Washing Day, Running off with the Gypsies, The War comes to Westgate Farm, among others. The cast of characters reappears in each story, stretching out from the immediate family and the neighbours to regular visitors like the postman and the baker.
