The idea for this book came to me out of necessity. I wanted something that would help guide me through the inspection process, while also adding uniformity to the way I looked at every home from beginning to end.
A checklist was the best solution, but I still wanted more. While checklists bring uniformity to the inspection process, they don’t help with the vast amount of code language found in today’s residential building code.
My solution was to combine the checklist concept with corresponding building codes. Let’s face it, packing around a nine hundred page code book is inconvenient and not always necessary for most jobs. This field guide identifies common inspections items while providing the user with quick access to over 380 applicable code sections.
This book replicates the sequencing in which most homes are built. Chapters are arranged in the order in which most components are built and inspected, beginning with the foundation and ending with the final building inspection for a certificate of occupancy.
