About this ebook

Charley Davidson—part-time private investigator and full-time Grim Reaper—returns in the New York Times bestseller, Sixth Grave on the Edge by Darynda Jones.

Sometimes I wrestle my demons. Sometimes we just snuggle.—Bumper Sticker

Most girls might think twice before getting engaged to someone like Reyes Farrow—but Charley Davidson is not most girls. She's a paranormal private eye and grim reaper-in-training who's known to be a bit of a hell-raiser, especially after a few shots of caffeine. Her beloved Reyes may be the only begotten son of evil, but he's dark and sultry and deeply sexy and everything Charley could hope for. Really.

But when the FBI file on Reyes' childhood happens to land into her lap, she can't help herself: She opens it...and then the real fun begins. First, Charley finds a naked corpse riding shotgun in her car. Then, a man loses his soul in a card game. Throw in a Deaf boy who sees dead people, a woman running from mobsters, and a very suspicious Reyes, and things can't get any worse for Charley. Unless, of course, the Twelve Beasts of Hell are unleashed…

Reviewed by: Rabid ReadsI held off on the fifth book for the sole purpose of evading the cliffhanger, yet here I am experiencing exactly what I wanted to avoid—a horrible hangover that’s going to last five months. Ok, so I know it’s bad form to start a review off by talking about the ending, but holy geez how can I not? I mean… the series just completely changed directions because of one revelation! I always feel like Darynda Jones leaves readers with more questions than answers, and that’s the case yet again with SIXTH GRAVE ON THE EDGE. As usual, this installment is packed with so many plot threads that trying to figure out how Lorelei King managed to cover them all in under 10 hours just might make your head explode. It’s been a while since I’ve mentioned the entertaining quotes this author uses at the beginning of each chapter, so it’s definitely worth repeating. Jones also takes it a step further in this installment with the addition of hashtags which I LOVED! Then there were the countless references to Charley’s coffee addiction that always make me feel like we’re sisters-from-another-mother. All of the spork jokes cracked me up too! The author also delves deeper into the powers of the reaper, and if you thought Davidson was badass before, just wait until you learn what other tricks she has up her sleeve. And then, there’s the mystery surrounding the prophesies, the daughter of light, and the twelve. Yes, we get some answers, but mostly it’s just more questions.Charley’s got her hands full once again in this installment with a naked dead man riding shotgun in Misery, her on-going child abduction case, Reyes’ looming question, and then there’s The Dealer. Ooh, and of course let’s not forget that Angel’s true past comes to light, there’s news on the Mr. Wong front, and in the midst of all this chaos Charley is also playing matchmaker to Cookie and Ubie. Needless to say, life as the Grim Reaper is never dull! But, leave it to Reyes Farrow to totally eclipse the entire action packed story line with his hot self. I love how far his and Davidson’s relationship has come through the course of this series, and I think the ending of this book will be a step in the right direction for them, even though the world might not agree. When it comes to audiobooks I consider myself somewhat of a slow listener, but I had no problems finishing SIXTH GRAVE ON THE EDGE in a day thanks to Lorelei King’s exquisite narration. Her pitch is perfectly suited for Jones’ writing style, and her voice couldn’t be any more CHARLEY DAVIDSON if she tried. You can tell that she’s having a blast while in the studio recording these, and that really comes through in her performances. It doesn’t matter whether it’s an action or sex scene; King always gives it her all which is why pre-ordering this audiobook was a no-brainer.SIXTH GRAVE ON THE EDGE ends with a big surprise that will leave you reeling in the possibilities. I’m telling you, this could change EVERYTHING! #holyshit

Another great addition to a fun and suspenseful series. This one had more danger in it and a really sad part that I didn't want to happen. Can't wait for the next one.

This is the 6th book in the series though it still contains Charley Davidson's wit and somewhat skewed view of the world it progresses the tale that Darynda is spinning. I am giving it 4 stars this time not my usual 5 stars for this series because I felt it was a trifle weak in comparison. It just felt slightly redundant and unfinished though I love the introduction of the hashtags.

I want that. What they have."*I have to stop here temporarily; I've been reading nothing but Charley Davidson for the past week.*I caught a glimpse alright I read the last parts of the next four books and I don't know... there are gods from other dimensions, daughters, memory loss, etc...

Dun Dun Duuuuun. THEIR BACK! Every Charley Davidson book has left me with a book hangover and SIXTH GRAVE ON THE EDGE is no different. I couldn't pick up a book for a good 24 hours (which by now you know is very weird for me) and even now, over a month after I read book 6, I'm still thinking about it and waiting to get my hands on book 7. I just love Charley's mouth! OK that sounded dirty, I shall rephrase. I love the way she thinks and her way with words. She is beyond hilarious and I wish I had a friend like her. The humor in this series is off the chart and it is always done so darn well. I love learning more about Charley, Reyes and the other characters as the series goes along. I am never left un-surprised (is that even a word?) about the bombs that are dropped. And I must say (even though you will have NO clue until you read the book). The missing wall moment was HILARIOUS. Ahh that Reyes. He is something else. That ending *eyes bugging out of my head* WHY must you drop that news and end it? I will go crazy until I get my hands on SEVENTH GRAVE AND NO BODY. I only have a few slight issues with SIXTH GRAVE, 1: There were some pretty big questions and plot happenings raised that we never got answers to and 2: the massive cliffhanger ending. Haven't started the series yet? I feel bad for you, you are SO missing out.* This book was provided free of charge from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

Oh My Gravy ! What did you do Charley ?!?!?!?!?! Wooweee this is going to be fun to watch. I loved the book, loved the new characters, loved the new love story LOVED what Reyes did on his car, and wow Cookie's daughter is ruined for life ! I was a smidgen miffed that I didn't get the whole story on a certain kitchen accessory, but waiting has it's rewards.
Waiting oh Mother of all things desperate. Wow, am I supposed to be able to wait for this bomb to explode in the next book ? I am just not that a patient person. I will be hunting for snippets till next October when book 7 comes out.

I continue loving this series, Charley is such a great character and the author has done a terrific job balancing the book's plot along with the overall series plot and both are moving along nicely. Charley and most of the characters are really funny and the book needs that with such dark plots. If the characters weren't so enjoyable the books would become depressing.

There's nothing more enjoyable than listening to a Charley Davidson book. Charley is such a fun and sarcastic and smart heroine. Charley knows she bumbles around but she also figures things out. She doesn't need anybody to take care of her but it sure is nice having Reyes Farrow and her rottweiler. What impresses me most about this series is that I'm on book six and never tire of listening to them and always come out of one thinking they are too short. I laugh, I cry, I get tense. All the things I look for in a book. And Lorelei King is the perfect narrator.

Sixth book in the Charley Davidson series. Paranormal private eye Charley Davidson also just happens to be the Grim Reaper as well as having the hots for Reyes Farrow, the son of Satan. That’s good, because he has asked her to marry him. Charley’s cases include a desperate man in search of the soul he lost in a card game, a dogged mother determined to find the ghost of her son, and a beautiful, young deaf boy haunted by his new ability to see the departed as clearly as he sees the living. Another entertaining read.

Everybody's favorite grim reaper is back with another clutch of mysteries to solve. We have a naked guy, a kidnapped boy, and a soul that needs to be found and given back to its owner - so basically, just another day for Charley Davidson. With the help of Cookie, Uncle Bob, and the ever sexy son of the devil, Reyes Farrow, Charley will tackle all of these, with her trademark snark and sarcasm. This series never gets old for me, and I enjoyed this installment as much as I enjoyed the previous ones! Oh, and there's a nice bomb dropped at the very end, too!Highly recommend - 5/5 stars.

This is the sixth book in the Charley Davidson series. The eleventh book in this series releases the end of January. I think this series keeps getting better and better. I love that the storyline is getting broader and more interesting. Of course there is a ton of humor in here and I continue to love Charley’s off the wall comments.I listened to this on audiobook again...I am just absolutely hooked on these audiobooks. King does an awesome job narrating and continues to make this series rock even more on audiobook than it would on paper. I definitely recommend listening to this series on audiobook if you enjoy audiobooks. There is a ton going on in this book but Jones does a good job keeping track of all the separate story threads and making them come together in a unique way by the end of the story. The story is unpredictable, fast-paced, and continually intriguing. The 12 Beasts of Hell have been released and things are about to get really really interesting for Reyes and Charley. We learn a lot more about Reyes’ past and more about Hell. Charley’s powers continue to grow and change. There were points in this book where all the multiple storylines going almost got to be too much; however it never quite got to the point for me. Jones does such an excellent job weaving the story together that you really only realize how complex it’s all gotten when you stop to think about it.Overall this was a fantastic continuation of the Charley Davidson series. I am really loving this series and I love it more with each book I read. I would definitely recommend this whole series to fans of light-hearted urban fantasy. It’s just been so much fun to read!

Each book gets better and better and makes for a series that is truly unforgettable. With the way Charley livens things up around her readers will wish they could actual know Charley and her brand of crazy. This book is laugh out loud funny and it will have readers turning the pages just to see how Charley will get out of her latest bout of trouble. It will also have readers reaching for the next book just to see what else will happen to Charley and company.

I absolutely love Charley's sense of humor and the way her mind wanders all over the place, although I'm sure some of that has to do with the way Lorelei King brings Charley's voice to life in the audio version. I've read a few snippets from the novels, and I'm pretty sure I'd have a harder time following Charley's thoughts without the narration.

I particularly enjoy the way she plays with other possible meanings of words, both on purpose and by accident (or by pretend accident!)

My only complaint about this whole series, and the reason for withholding the fifth star, is that I kind of dread hearing about how "perfect" Reyes's body is. I enjoy his personality and the way he interacts with Charley and others. But his role as sex god (or is that sex demon)? BOOO-RING. Why do we need to hear the graphic details of Reyes and Charley having sex? It's not as though the book is likely to attract readers who haven't experienced it (and/or read about it) a gazillion times already, so those parts weigh down what is otherwise such a funny and original story -- at least for this reader!

(I guess that's a downside to listening to these books rather than reading them -- you can't skip the graphic parts while listening!)

    Sixth Grave on the Edge
    4 Stars

Series note: It is essential that the books in this series be read in order for the overall story arc.

The Charley Davidson series is such a fun read and there are some excellent developments and a surprising twist or two in this installment. That said, there are also sections that feel like filler although perhaps their significance will become more apparent at a later date.

As with most of the books in this series, there are multiple mysteries and storylines. Charley has her hands full with a man who lost his soul in a card game, a ghost hanging out in her car, a threatening crime boss in search of an elusive witness, a young girl haunting a cable car and a police captain with an agenda. All this in addition to Reyes Alexander Farrow, the hunky son of Satan, who wants an answer to the life altering question he posed in the previous book.

While the various mysteries seem to serve little to no purpose in the overall scheme of things, they do lead to some exciting scenes. Nevertheless, it is Charley and Reyes's steamy and spicy relationship that takes center stage and there is one particular moment that had me truly worried at the direction Jones seemed to be going it. Thankfully, it all works out (in a way) and it will be interesting to see what happens next, especially considering the revelation at the end. Of course, given the fact that Charley and Reyes have been going at it like rabbits, this little twist is not all that surprising :0)

All in all, the humor and the banter, the friendships and the mysteries, the romance and the action all make this one of my absolute favorite paranormal series. Can’t wait to get to the next one.

Darynda Jones is one of only two authors of supernatural novels (the other being Karen Robards) whose books I will read. Because normally I don't like supernatural stories. And I looooove Darynda Jones. Her writing is so entertaining - the fictional T-shirt/bumper sticker quotes she uses at the beginning of every chapter always have me laughing out loud, and I love Charley Davidson, the heroine. In fact, I love all the main characters of her Grave series - Charley the grim reaper, Alexander Reyes Farrow the sizzling hot son of Satan, Cookie the next-door neighbor/assistant, and Garrett Swopes the skip tracer.I was highly entertained by "Sixth Grave on the Edge," as I always am with the books in this series. What kept it from being 5-star caliber was the fact that there were too many subplots going on. I'm ok with one or two subplots, but this one had so many I lost count. It became distracting. I wanted Charley to figure out more about her powers and what's expected of her. I liked the new character of the Dealer, from whom we learn more about what Charley is expected to do. But then there was the one appearance of Charley's stepmother, who asks her to find out what her dad is doing - not off on vacation, as he had told her. Charley's dad doesn't even appear in this book. And then said stepmother never shows up again. Really, that whole part could have been left out and the book would have been just fine without it.And oh, how disappointed I was that Garrett Swopes didn't play a larger role in this book. When he did appear, his ongoing antagonism for Reyes Farrow was nowhere to be found. What's up with that? He's always hated Farrow, especially knowing what Farrow truly is and having made his own trip to hell and back in a previous book. In this book, he agrees to cooperate with Charley and Farrow, and he doesn't even put up a fight. Swopes has always been a kind of foil to Farrow - here is a person who has always cared for Charley, as much as she drives him crazy, and he always helps her and it doesn't hurt that he's really good-looking - there has always been an underlying chemistry between Swopes and Charley, even though nothing ever happens, but I like that it's there. All of that sexual tension mixed with animosity/respect/friendship between Swopes and Charley that was in previous books in the series is not here in this book. Swopes is more peripheral in this book, more like a sidekick, and I didn't like that. He's tough enough to hold his own. (In fact, I think he should get his own spinoff book, but I digress.)Ah, well, as I see that the author has already scheduled a release date of October 2014 for the next book in the series, she's clearly saving up the tying of loose ends for that book. But I hope that the 7th book has fewer subplots and makes more progress on the battle between Heaven and Hell.

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie TalesQuick & Dirty: Charley is dealing with “Post Traumatic Death Disorder” in this even campier, quirkier installment.Opening Sentence: “A girl, a mocha latte, and a naked dead man walk into a bar,” I said, turning to the naked dead man sitting in my passenger seat. The Review:Sixth Grave on the Edge is another fun but stress filled story in the Charley Davidson series. This series has been a very entertaining series to me so far. I enjoy the humor and wit. Although I will say that this one felt more over the top campy (like the better horror movies in my opinion) and weird than usual. Charley is really ramping up the humor to the annoyance of her friends. She has some really strange and crazy conversations. I think this one just really amps up the strange and kooky facets of this series. Two weeks have passed since the events of Fifth Grave Past the Light and Charley is suffering from Post-Traumatic Death Disorder. A phrase that I found suits Charley and her problems perfectly. Once again Charley is stretched thin trying to solve too many cases. A client goes to Charley because he finds out she has a knack for solving the strange and unusual. He sold his soul and he wants it back. I really enjoyed this storyline as we meet the even more mysterious Osh, who has a lot in common with Reyes. It is finally revealed why Captain Eckert has been after Charley. He is blackmailing her. He wants answers about Charleys’ abilities and his past. He won’t stop at anything until he gets his answers. This was a fascinating storyline that had Charley double thinking about how she solves her cases. In a series of strange things that Charley does, she is busy planning how to get Uncle Bob to finally ask out Cookie. Charley is also working on the kidnapping case for Agent Carson, which reveals that Reyes childhood is even more messed up than what we thought.Reyes just can’t get any sexier. He literally breaks down Charley’s walls, trying to tell her that they really belong to each other. Even if she doesn’t quite grasp it with the notes. I thought the wall scene was the funniest conversation.Oh my god, the ending… I thought I was going to cry. I thought Charley was a goner. And Reyes. The only good thing is that Charley learns more about the powers she wields.Sixth Grave on the Edge does have a bit of a filler feel but it is still just as action packed as Fifth Grave. A lot more of Charley’s destined fight is revealed but there is still no ultimate showdown, just as more mysteries seem to reveal themselves. It seems as though there is still so much left undone. A major life changing event happens for Charley and Reyes.Notable Scene:My phone rang when I got to Misery.“Are you okay?” Cookie asked.“Yes. I’m fine.”“You don’t sound fine.”“I’m fine.”“You don’t sound fine.”“I’m so not fine!” I said, collapsing into a blob of sniffling nerves. “Something is up with Uncle Bob. I think he’s … he’s mad at me.”Cookie gasped. “Robert is never mad at you.”“I know. I just don’t know what to think.”“Me neither. On the bright side, you can talk it over with your therapist. Your appointment is in half an hour.”“I can’t go to therapy. That woman needs more therapy than I do.”“Most therapists do, hon. You still have to go. If you miss again, your sister will kill you.”“Cook, I have a thousand cases going on at once. My life has been threatened. My apartment has been ransacked. A half-human, half-demon stole a priceless dagger from me and won’t return it until he gets together with Swopes so they can talk prophecies. And I was just almost arrested for drug possession and kiddie porn.”“Your sister won’t care.”FTC Advisory: I purchased my own copy of Sixth Grave on the Edge. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

The end of Sixth Grave on the Edge by Darynda Jones has me counting down to the 7th book!Story Thoughts: Why am I always on the countdown with this series? I mean seriously I am usually annoyed with cliffhangers but each of these just leave me more intrigued (not annoyed). That being said, the main reason I love these is the mystery. Darynda would make a darn good cozy mystery writer should she ever decide to venture into that category. The mystery is often not easy to figure out and Charlie really has to work to get all her ducks in a row. The mystery solving is strong in that one (and Cookie too). While the Reyes/Charlie storyline is the backbone of the series, I do enjoy the Charlie/Cookie sleuthing time just as much (if not more).Character Thoughts: Cookie, Uncle Bob, Rocket, and all the side characters are the rockstars to me in this series. Yes I love Charlie (still warming up to Reyes--I know everyone else LURVES him) but to me Charlie is better because of her family and friends! You can't go wrong with this cast of characters just trust me on that!Audio Thoughts:Narrated By Lorelei King / Length: 9 hrs and 46 minsPerfect combo! *Book source ~ LibraryIt’s only been a few weeks since yet another deranged person, place or thing has tried to wipe Grim Reaper Charley Davidson from the face of planet Earth, but she’s hard at work again attempting to solve cases for her PI business, drooling over her sexy soon-to-be-affianced son of Satan AKA Reyes and trying to get her best friend laid by Uncle Ubie. That last one she doesn’t want to think about too closely lest it squick her out. In addition, she’s working a 30-yr-old cold case, trying to get a client’s soul back, worrying about her dad, finding a missing woman before one of her friends gets iced, figuring out her powers, deciphering a prophecy and juggling her Reaper duties. No worries. This girl has mad skillz. Right? Six books in and this series is still going strong. I love, love, love Charley & Co. Charley is a delight as always, Reyes is yumminess personified, Cookie is the bestest of best friends and every other character (no matter how minor) has depth and nuance not usually seen in a book let alone a series. The things Charley has to deal with are numerous and yet nothing gets ignored or short-changed. Somehow, she pulls things together though she gets hurt yet again and then does something, several somethings, that implies they will have drastic effect on future books. I do have to say, I’m getting a little tired of certain people telling Charley that she has to learn some of this shit “in her own time/way” because, well, do they know her at all?! My curiosity is off the charts for what is coming because I know it will be big. There are many loose threads dangling that I’m itching to pull and yet the big picture is slowly revealing itself. More! Must have more! Thank the Book Gods there will be another book out this year. *sighs in relief*

“Charley brings out the worst in all of us. It’s not her fault.”“He’s right,” I said. “I have a condition.” Charley’s back and busier than ever. She’s investigating a case of child abduction for the FBI and the child is none other than Reyes Farrow. She’s forced into finding a witness scheduled to testify after armed gunmen break into her home and threaten her. She’s helping a man get his soul back after he lost it in a poker game, trying to figure out why her dad is acting so mysterious and also dealing with her other full-time of being a grim reaper. Charley certainly has her hands full.I can’t tell you how wonderful it feels having a new Charley Davidson book to read. I won’t likely ever be complaining that this series has gone on for far too long because Charley is such an entertaining and snarky character with some of the most hilariously witty lines I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. She’s up to her same shenanigans, going outside of her way to help people to her own detriment, but this is the Charley we’ve all grown to know and love.”Imagine a canvas bathed completely in black. Only black. There is no shape. No purpose other than to bring darkness. Then splash on a brilliant white. Add some reds and blues, some yellows and greens. Suddenly it has meaning. It has a reason to exist. That is what you have to my world.” Charley and Reyes is one of my favorite aspects of this series. <3 The steaminess continues and I love how well-developed and non-corny their romance is written. It’s authentic and genuine and you can feel the emotions that the two have for each other radiate off the page.Such as how it was in Fifth Grave Past the Light, Sixth Grave manages to somehow end on an even bigger shocker of a cliffhanger. As much as I despise cliffhangers though, this one has much more to do with the main storyline and gives me hope that the books will begin focusing on that aspect more. Plus, we only have six short months until Seventh Grave and No Body is released so I suppose I can scrounge up some patience. As much as I enjoyed this installment, because come on it’s Charley after all, it felt very filler-y. There wasn’t nearly as much progression in the ongoing grim-reaper storyline as I would have liked and there was not only too much time spent on the side mysteries but there were far too many of them that became a bit convoluted. There were also many questions introduced but not a lot of answers. Charley is forever a favorite of mine but Sixth Grave on the Edge felt unfortunately like the weakest installment yet.

Charley’s heavy sarcastic wit is back to full strength as she involves herself in a number of different cases. Reyes, living next door, is still waiting for a reply to his marriage proposal. Charley’s father is acting kind of strange, a soul eating demon is introduced, Captain Eckert is following her around and the reason is surprising. Charley continues to slowly learn more about the prophecies and what she’s capable of doing. And we learn a little more about Reyes’ past. This story will have you both laughing and crying in a number of places. We are provided with a couple of new threads that have yet to be explored and Charley is continuing to learn just what her job as The Grim Reaper really is—and here she thought she’d been doing it. We learn she’s very different from the ones that have been there before, for a number of reasons. And we get a little surprise at the end that will definitely shake things up.For those not familiar with the series, Charley is The Grim Reaper. Yes, that’s a capital “T” in the word “The.” The dead who don’t pass over right away, pass over through her when they are ready. To them she’s a very bright shining light. And it’s because she can interact with them that she’s able to help the police solve cases as she works her own PI business. Reyes is the only son of Satan. To him, she’s the lightness to his dark and it drives him nuts that Charley doesn’t take his advice to stay safe. The prophecies about the two of them are looking catastrophic for the world. Do not start with this book. You’d be missing out on too much, even though a back story is given. Start with First Grave on the Right. I love this series. Between Charley’s use of sarcasm, her caring for everyone else which often leads her into trouble, the humorous situation—often involving ghosts—Reyes and the world that was built, we’re provided with a lot of entertainment. The combination of humor, touching emotional moments, lust and characters with issues makes this a book and series I highly recommend.
