She sat with her head resting on his chest, his hand gently smoothing her hair, a long quiet time of peace and togetherness. The soft music drifting on the air like a lullaby eased them and filed the empty places inside their souls.
A flash, and she felt herself pulled away. She looked down at her body. She was standing, without doing so herself. Once more she felt a tug and her eyes went to him, panic clear in their azure depths. He reached out a hand and placed his palm on her cheek. Lifting her own hand she pressed it close and turned to kiss his palm. He softly murmured and she closed her eyes briefly.
The tug came stronger this time and she was pulled away, like a puppet on a silver string. She held out her hands to him and his eyes said goodbye to her. She cried out his name as the mists surrounded her body and he faded from sight.
He closed his eyes and sighed, head bowed. Their time was always too short.

Opening her eyes, Aislinn sighed. The comfort she found in his arms was so brief and fleeting. She turned back to her work, a single tear sliding un-noticed down her cheek.
The work. It always came to the work. For two thirds of her day she sat inside the small, featureless cubicle. She ran simulations, calculated the results and typed up reports. Nothing like she had dreamed she would be doing when she first embarked on her career. The endless rounds of computer tests seemed to never end.
