    Chapter 1

She had been running most of the night without a breath of relaxation of relief from her pursuers, had she not been surrounded by the forest adding to her strength she would have been captured by the demon spawn a long time ago.

Being the demigod daughter of Yum Kaax the Mayan god of the woods, of wild nature, and of the hunt had its advantages but even with her powers there was only so much she could do to stay ahead of Zipacna’s creatures.

Zipacna had lain dormant for so long most of the people had forgotten that the demon personification of the Earth’s crust even existed anymore but the priests and select few demigods knew better then to forget any of the potential enemies of the past.

Brianna had chosen to find out what was going on to the lands far to the west where no one ever ventured any longer, it wasn’t a mission from the gods or of the king. She had felt the shift in the world and knew that when the gods went to the summit in the far away land called Egypt something was stirring.

The priests had assured the people that the gods were growing stronger by the day and this meeting with the other gods in the far away land would only make them that much more powerful, the ancient chalice of time had been found and it’s power separated among the gods of the Earth so it wouldn’t threaten anyone ever again.

The people rejoiced but Brianna and a select few had felt something other than relief, a shock of energy that echoed through the world hardly felt by others but she had sensed it. She went to the high city and spoke with the king and priests asking for them to commune with the gods but they gave her a lot of excuses and sent her on her way.

She didn’t like being pushed aside or being dismissed when it came to the safety of her people and their gods, steeling her nerves Brianna went to the edge of the massive city standing in front of the forest reaching out with her powers sensing every little thing hidden ahead of her.

In a swift move Brianna burst into full run at a speed that rivaled the panther’s around the forest, with a focus beyond that of eagles she reached inside touching her power again and adding the agility of an ape to where she shot high into the tree tops bounding from branch to branch until she reached a clearing with a large waterfall glistening in the sun.

Dropping from the tree tops into the comfort of rising vines sprouting from the soft ground beneath her on the forest floor, as her feet touched the ground she took a deep breath catching every scent in the familiar area she used to communicate with her father.

Wading out into the water Brianna pulled on the vine just below the surface of the water instantly reveling the hidden alter.

Father, I don’t know what’s going on but I feel that something is stirring. My senses are sharpened and focused, I feel something dark and evil moving against us but the priests assure us that nothing is wrong. Please father I need your guidance, what do I do from here?

For a crippling moment everything was silent giving Brianna the fear that he might not answer again, it had been more and more frequent that the gods hadn’t answered their children or the priests, one by one the demigods of their lands had been killed during quests leaving only her with the wait of the people squarely on her shoulders.

Brianna had wondered about the deaths of the other demigods but their seemed to be no evidence of anything amiss other than regular dangers still something just didn’t feel right, she wondered about all the other demigods out there in the world, who they were and what they might be doing.

Were they desperately seeking an answer from their parents as they felt the wait of the world on their shoulders or were they leisurely relaxing without a care in the world the way she had been told other peoples of the world acted.

Suddenly the ground rumbled waking her from the thoughts as hundreds of animals and woodland creatures surrounded the alter where a giant vision serpent exploded into view in front of her. The giant two headed serpent stared at her, its red scaly skin shimmered as the water glimmered down towards the pond. The bearded black faces grinned at her as the double mouths opened in unison reveling the face of her father Yum Kaax.

Once again you come before me my child. He said looking into her eyes. "Against the wishes of
