About the author

Who is Jake Maddox? Athlete, author, world-traveler – or all three? He has surfed in Hawaii, scuba-dived in Australia, and climbed the mountains of Peru and Alaska. His books range from the most popular team sports to outdoor activities to survival adventures and even to auto racing. His exploits have inspired numerous writers to walk in his footsteps – literally! Each of his stories is stamped with teamwork, fair play, and a strong sense of self-worth and discipline. Always a team-player, Maddox realizes it takes more than one man (or woman) to create a book good enough for a young reader. He hopes the lessons learned on the court, field, or arena and the champion sprinter pace of his books can motivate kids to become better athletes and lifelong readers.

Jake MaddoxHave you ever been on a basketball team and you always mess up your free throws? Derek has, who is Derek you ask? Derek is a typical teenager who love basketball, and can’t shoot free throws.I actually loved the book, because it’s partly about my life. I say that because Derek has to listen to one of his teammate Jason who used to play forward plays guard/center because Coach Taylor says try something new, and he gets very upset.I think Jake Maddox is a good author, because it’s like he is writing about him, his sister, etc. If you read this book, when you finish you will see some key words you should study.I would recommend this book to anyone who has problems with their friends or sports and want to figure out how to stop it.

Again, this is a book that I would use when teaching reading comprehension skills or would even use to read out loud as a class. Many of my students with reading goals and objectives would benefit from have read these "easier" reads.
