My Little Things
About the book
What possibly could any pen say to one who has set down his poetry in a language not his own? But that is not all. The vocabulary language—chosen by this poet for setting down his thoughts—has been the English language which, surely, must be a tongue almost as far removed, as could be, from the poet’s own native Arabic?
Little wonder that Ibrahim Saad, whose family was forced to flee to Gaza in Al Nakba (catastrophe) of 1948, has written his collection of poems with the anger and bitterness most of his people feel, running through them. Only suffering can lead to deep thought—those with easy lives mainly deal in surface thought and never have to look into the abyss.read more
To My Daughter with Love is a collection of poetry and art created by Susan Polis Schutz and Stephen Schutz as a tribute to their daughter. Written with a kind of free style verse, the poems detail the hopes and dreams the parents have for their daughter, both when she was young and as she leaves for college. While obviously cheesy, To My Daughter with Love serves its purpose as a gift book from mother to daughter. The poems are touching and have many universal themes. The sentiment of independence and being able to stand alone was especially nice, as it expresses a dream for a daughter that many mothers from that age were just exploring themselves. Not for everyone, but worth checking out if you are looking for a graduation gift for your daughter or maybe a gift for a new mother.read more
