I have read the series and found it easy to read and follow, its a nice, though adult due to some of the content, fun series to read.I enjoyed the characters, you can relate to them even though, especially Ari and Janco, they were fun.I enjoyed them very much.more
This is a great fantasy fiction series for a slightly lighter read. I usually like a more epic style series but I was looking for something that would be a little less complex and this series was perfect! There is a little bit of everything -romance, mystery, action, adventure, fantasy, etc. I enjoyed Yelena (the protagonist) and her vivacious attitude and her continued journey of discovering her past. Definitely worth curling up on your couch with a cup of coffee to enjoy!more
I don't understand all the recommendations I've received for this book or all the good reviews I've seen. I bought The Study Series Bundle for Kindle and I regret wasting my money as the books will never be re-read by me. The first book was "okay" to "likable", the subsequent short story and two full length book sequels have been an absolute chore to read. While some people are labeling this book series as scifi/fantasy, there are no true science fiction elements or even steampunk elements that I noted. However there are some scenes with items that feel like anachronisms (such as fire escapes). The whole series reads like a romance author trying their hand at fantasy for the first time. Unfortunately, due to poor character development, the author fails to make this series work as either fantasy or a romance. Of course, my feeling that these books fail as romance may have to do with my dislike for a character that spends most of her time doing one of two things: 1 - whining to herself about past experiences 2 - rushing headlong into danger with no regard for others or, apparently, memory of her past experiences Caution: The series deals with some very adult issues (rape, murder, death) so it may not be suitable for younger readers even though the scenes themselves are not very graphic in description.more
