      ROMANANTIC

      The brief brush of his hand in the corridor, unseen by the many that surround us, is ecstasy.

      White walls, a hospital, milling patients and more so doctors and nurses; the hall is full, too much for a Monday. A moment of privacy, of intimacy, that's what we have within this crowd. That's what I have with my lover Dan as he hustles by.

      I glance over my shoulder as he walks on, his white work coat fluttering out in his haste, a doctor - young by most people's opinion, but skilled, skilled enough to get into one of the biggest hospitals in the country straight after his residence.

      An image of his godlike naked frame appears in my mind and I blush. Dan is a good man, but it is the sexual connection that drew us together. His long limbs, strong and wide back and handsome face make him a huge catch. More than a few have tried in the six months that he has been working here, but for one reason or another they were unsuccessful. Only I caught his eye. It came at a time where I was just out of a mess relationship. I thought it would be nothing, but he turned out to be something - more than something - and I found love again sooner than expected.

      My supervisor coming into view immediately turns my mind from my man to my work.

      Have you got that chart from before? he asks sleepily.

      12 hours in, Tom is looking tired.

      Yeah. It's here.

      I hand it to him. He looks it over.

      I have to catch some zzzs. Can you tell Trisha that I'm on a break?

      Of course. When are you planning on getting back?

      He shrugs.

      A few hours. Won't be going back to the wife and kids tonight it seems.

      I pat him on the shoulder and he gives me a thankful look. Tom leaves me to my work, of which there is a considerable amount. Work slips by in that way that it can when you have something on your mind, an expectation, something exciting that one wants to do - the dangled fruit that you just can't reach. Only a few more hours and it is going to be Dan's sleep break. We have room 211. That's the one with only one bed; No disturbances.
