INTRODUCTION
You don't have Fibromyalgia
Your partner does
BUT
TOGETHER you can manage it
For me the first step in understanding fibro is accepting that your partner has it, neither of you like the diagnosis you have been given but you do have to accept it. You need to accept that things will change. You can either withdraw or hide behind the false belief that it can be cured with a bit of rest and a few pills or you can learn about it, understand it and manage it.
The aim of this book is to help you, the partner deal with living with Fibromyalgia.
To help to understand how your partner is suffering and how to deal with the emotional effects Fibromyalgia has on your partner; providing simple explanations and simple do's and don'ts, to help you understand and be the support your partner needs.
This book is not about complex medical terminology or what Fibromyalgia may or may not be, it is a simply written book about understanding and managing Fibromyalgia as a partner, based on my own research, experience and listening to my partner and others like her.
YOU are important. Your understanding and support can make living with Fibromyalgia a whole lot better and more tolerable for your partner and trust me on this one, being there for them also makes you feel a whole lot better about yourself.
WHY do I need to learn about fibro? You may be asking.
WHY do I need to understand it? My partner has it, she/he knows what she/he needs to know to manage it, they do okay without me knowing what it's all about.
Lack of understanding, leads to lack of support and that can make it a whole lot worse, not just for your partner who has Fibromyalgia but also you and your relationship.
The benefits to BOTH are incredible, learning about and understanding how you can help your partner can make such an incredible difference to the quality of BOTH your lives.
The diagrams on the following pages are just my way of showing two different perspectives on understanding and supporting and not understanding and supporting.
CYCLE 1
A vicious circle that just keeps spinning around and around getting nowhere, gathering momentum, getting worse and worse until it eventually snaps from its axis and spins off out of control and lands up who knows where?
CYCLE 2
