Lethal Desire Part 2 - Lorraine Kennedy

    Chapter One

    ––––––––

    Aspen

It was time to move to safer ground.

I noticed that in the contract it states that I cannot divulge anything that happens between us.

Chaz nodded. Can’t have this getting out to the public.

Does that include anything that is said?

    Yes.

Then tell me what you know about my sister. If I can’t talk about it, what do you have to worry about?

    Turning away, he grew silent.

    Please, I prodded.

Sighing, he turned back to look at me. I haven’t told you what I know for your own protection. I suspect knowing too much is what got Tona into trouble.

I propped myself up on one elbow so I could see into his eyes. What do you mean?

You are aware that human sex trafficking is out of control here, right?

    I nodded, but said nothing.

He continued. There have been a number of disappearances over the last few years, and I suspect human trafficking is at the bottom of it.

But that doesn’t make any sense. Both Mandy and Tona were in the sex trade already.

That’s true. I’m not suggesting they were taken with the intent of being forced into prostitution. What I think is that they discovered something that was dangerous to these people. You see, there is an elite group of people inside Desire that require some very unethical and risky sexual stimulation. They are very rich, and very powerful. If they want someone dead, that person is as good as dead.

But don’t they get anything they want there already? I asked, still not quite understanding what he was getting at.

Most everything, but not some things, and especially not the type of things these people want.

A sudden wave of fear washed over me. Wait a minute! How do you know all of this?

Chaz turned away, as if he couldn’t stand to look at me. There’s more.

That was it. He was going to confess what he knew about Mandy.

I was alarmed by the troubled expression on his face.

Holding my breath, I prayed he would tell me something about my sister, but yet I dreaded it at the same time.

It’s nothing, he said, shaking his head. Sorry I brought it up.

    No way!

Jumping from the bed, I wrapped one of the sheets around me. You need to tell me what you meant, especially if you believe it could be important to finding Mandy.

Sighing, he ran his fingers through his thick hair. The main reason I still visit Club Desire is to gain the trust of certain elite guests that frequent the resort. That is the only way they are going to let me in their little club.

Why do you care about getting in their club? I asked, not so sure I liked the idea of him being involved with the kind of people who may be responsible for women going missing."

Maybe I like tying women up and teasing them until they can’t stand it anymore, he said, giving me a sheepish grin.

After what just happened, that was something I could believe.

    Seriously?

His smile vanished suddenly and he shook his head. I do like teasing, but I don’t need a club to satisfy my fantasies.

A dark cloud seemed to settle over him then. The change was so abrupt, it was like someone had flipped a switch.

You see ... I lost someone too.

The sadness I saw in his eyes pulled at my heart.

What I’m really here for is to infiltrate their secret society. If they had something to do with Jessica’s disappearance, I’m going to make them pay.

There was so much anger in his voice, it really was like he was a different person.

Jessica? Is that the girl in the picture I unpacked from your bags?

    He nodded.

She was obviously someone he’d cared for, deeply. I wasn’t sure I liked the idea or not. On one hand, I was relieved that he hadn’t come to Desire just to play around on his woman, but on the other hand, it really bothered me that he’d had such deep feelings for this girl.

    But it shouldn’t!

I barely knew him, so what did it matter?

The truth was, logic had no place in what I felt. I did feel something for Chaz, but I figured it was mostly a girlish crush. When you idolize someone for years, it’s kind of like you have known them all along.

    What happened? I asked.

Getting up from bed, he grabbed the pants he’d carelessly tossed on the floor and started dressing.

A few years ago, Club Desire contacted my manager and offered us an impressive amount of money to play at the Cabana for a few hours. They have two nightclubs on property, one is for all the guests ... the other is for the elite only, he explained as he was zipping up his jeans.

All of us agreed ... even though we did have some idea what this place was. It would have been stupid not to, he paused long enough for me to absorb what he was saying.

That’s when I met Jessica. She was different than the other girls ... like she didn’t really belong. Later I found out that she wasn’t there by choice. Jessica told me she’d been with her family on a cruise in the Caribbean, and was kidnapped during a port of call in Santo Domingo.

Why didn’t she just go to the police? I asked, a little puzzled that something so medieval
