About this ebook

Mind her own business? Leave it to the experts? Not a chance.

especially when asked to spy on her friend's strangely behaving husband, Eugene, at one of San Francisco's hottest nightclubs. When Sophie shows up in a short red cocktail dress and the potentially two–timing hubby shows up dead, the would–be sleuth launches a full investigation.

Without warning, Sophie plunges into a world of political mudslinging and campaign cover–ups. She uncovers some pretty dirty secrets, including a certain conservative congressional hopeful's involvement in the "Furry" community a group with a fetish for mascot–sized animal costumes. Sex and politics, wouldn't you know?

Sophie knows she needs help, and turns to P.I.(and ex–boyfriend) Anatoly Darinsky. Together they set out to discover who killed Eugene and why. Their professional relationship may be repaired, but what will this very unusual case do for their personal one?

Kyra Vizas

Kyra Davis was born in the San Francisco Bay Area where, with the exception of a brief stint in New York, she has spent her entire life. She majored in business and humanities at Golden Gate University and, after graduating with her bachelor's degree, began a career in fashion merchandising and marketing. At age 27 Kyra gave birth to a wonderful son and stayed home with him for the first 18 months of his life. During her hiatus from work she managed to spend just enough quality time with her husband to motivate her to file for divorce. As a single mother on the verge of bankruptcy, Kyra felt it was irresponsible to drown her sorrows in Cosmopolitans so she drowned them in Frappucinos and writing instead. The Frappucinos (complimented by a healthy dose of anxiety) lead to insomnia, which lead to more writing time and it wasn't long before she realized that she had found her calling. Two years later Kyra had an agent, a finished manuscript and bids from two New York publishing houses. She feels the secret to living a happy life is to pursue your passions and learn from your mistakes, which is why she has quit her day job to become a full-time writer and will only spend quality time with her son, her friends...and Juan Valdez.

Sophie is called upon by her mentor for a really big favor. This story is the first one I've read where I thought maybe Sophie will grow and develop and not just be another Stephanie Plum. It is a fun story, I was impressed with the author's handling of the political candidates. When I saw where the story was headed, I was afraid it would simply turn out to villainize one party or the other, but she kept the focus on the individuals, and human nature, not on the political differences. I must say, this book may have ruined my innocent enjoyment of mascot costumes and such!I'm always a bit unsatisfied at the end of these novels, I think the author could still improve in setting up her resolutions and denouement.

Loved it, I have listened too all three of her first books in this series so far, witty, irreverent and laugh out loud funny, I love the sophie katz character she has my sense of humor and sarcasm, I really like the woman who reads these as audiobooks too her voice is just right. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes a good read with some murder, and humor mixed in. I must "live under a rock too" because I had no idea what furry's were....lol...guess thats what they mean by truth stranger than fiction.

A good addition to the Sophie Katz series, this novel jumps ahead a year after the last one. I was disappointed to see Sophie and Anatoly were not together anymore, but glad to see them working together (some of the best scene are when the two of them are making fun of one another or being competitive). The mystery this time around was very strange, but kept me guessing until the last chapter.

I'm kind of lukewarm on this one, the first two were more entertaining I think. I still liked it, and will read the next one, but of the three so far, this one isn't my favorite.
