Description

The Assassin Without a Name has a new client and a new job in the form of Kaileesh, a Southlander too sly for his own good. The job goes down without a hitch, but things sour when it comes time to settle. Finding himself at the receiving end of a double-cross isn't anything new for the Assassin Without a Name, so he knows just what to do to Kaileesh. But the situation becomes more complicated when he learns Kaileesh was in league with an influential member of Alchester's gentry. What starts as simple revenge becomes something more as the Assassin Without a Name formulates a plan to bring his own particular form of justice down on the heads of those who betrayed him.

About the author

Scott Marlowe writes both straight-up fantasy and science fantasy. We all know anything can happen in fantasy. But toss in some pseudoscience, an infernal machine or two, and a healthy dose of rampant sorcery and you've got a true recipe for disastrous adventure and fun. Scott holds degrees in Computer Science Engineering, Comparative Literature, and English from the University of California, Davis. When he's not writing, Scott likes to hit the trails on his mountain bike or immerse himself in the excitement (sarcasm) and intricacies of tax software. He loves dogs, dark beer, and strong coffee. He hails from the San Francisco Bay Area, but now lives in Texas with his wife and two crazy dogs. You can find more information about Scott online at scottmarlowe.com.

A Tale of the Assassin Without a Name #6

I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG the moment Kaileesh dropped the coin purse in my hand. The delighted glint in his eyes, the smirk lighting his otherwise dusky face, and the way he stepped back, with long strides meant to widen the distance between us as quickly as possible, all pointed to one thing: the weasel had double-crossed me. My hands went to the hilts of my long knives even as Kaileesh addressed the shadows around us.

Gentlemen, Kaileesh said, his words laced with silk, your payment awaits you. You need only take it from this man’s corpse. A pleasure doing business with you. Then he turned and disappeared into the darkness.

I considered sprinting after him, but Kaileesh’s bullyboys already had me surrounded on all sides. An odd quartet of lean and fat and short and tall, with blades and sticks drawn and held
