The Invention of Wings was released in January 2014. It was published by Penguin Group.

The Invention of Wings was written by Sue Monk Kidd. She is a New York Times bestselling author.

The Invention of Wings is considered a historical novel under the Literature & Fiction genre.

The novel is available in multiple formats: print (hardback/paperback), e-book (kindle/nook), and audio (CD/mp3).

The Invention of Wings is Sue's third fiction novel to be published.

The idea of writing from the point of view of an enslaved person was daunting to Sue. Despite her reservations, however, she says she enjoyed every minute of it.

The novel was inspired by Sarah Grimke, who happens to be a historical figure.

The novel is written in alternating first-person accounts. The first character to start is a slave named Hetty.

Though the book is a work of fiction, it's based on real people. There isn't much known about the real Hetty, nor is there a lot known about her death other than she died young. In the novel however, Sue writes from Hetty's point of view and tries to come up with situations Hetty could have likely been a part of.

When writing  the character Hetty, Sue said she could not stop thinking about her. Her mind was constantly on Hetty and she felt for Hetty.

Sue Monk Kidd was born August 12, 1948 in Albany, Georgia.

Although born in Albany, Georgia, Sue was raised the small town of Sylvester, Georgia. This town influenced Sue to write The Secret Life of Bees.

Sue has a soft, relaxed Southern accent when she speaks. The accent comes from where she was born and raised.

As of 2014, Sue lives in Southwest Florida with her husband and their dog, a black lab named Lily.

Sue enjoys writing in first person. This is because she enjoys being in the mind of just one character, at one time.
