About this ebook
Have you ever wondered what treatments and cures the old time doctors had for Intestinal diseases? What did they do back in the olden days for illness when there were no drugs?
Well actually, IBS and IBD are relatively new diseases on the scale of human ailments, but they are no less an intestinal disorder. Modern science now believes that the explosion of these diseases in our current times is a direct reflection of our poor diet, self-destructive farming methods, "masking" drug treatments and anti-biotic overuse.
The purpose of this book is to re-acquaint people with the forgotten Treasure-Trove of herbal medicine for treatment of stomach and intestinal disorders which have been employed by the American Indians, the gypsies, the Chinese, the ancient herbalists, and the old-time country doctors. The human body has a built-in system for killing foreign bacteria and viruses and has been performing these cures for centuries. It's called the immune system. A strong immune system is the only real cure for any illness. Herbal remedies have a history of rebuilding the immune system and combining them with a good diet can cleanse the system allowing the body to heal itself. Modern medicine, (mainly the drug industry), is not focused on curing diseases. Drugs only treat "the symptoms" of disease, never the underlying cause, thereby sustaining continued drug use, with disruptive and severe side effects, which keep people "drug dependent" and continually sick. Good for business, bad for people.
This author was raised by an herbalist author/practitioner and studied herbal remedies his entire life and uses them to this day. He has pulled together a storehouse of information regarding natural healing treatments for stomach and intestinal disorders AND MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL: A List of the herbs known throughout history to treat intestinal ailments- all with no side-effects. Read each one and notice the target specific. Along with reported use, some of the herbs listed here contain additional information including research, studies and history of the plant’s medicinal properties.
Over the last 60 years, numerous growing and harvesting methods such as genetic manipulation, chemical fertilizers, chemical pesticides, and green harvesting (shipping unripened foods), has depleted precious macromolecules from the modern day food intake. This gradual depletion directly correlates to the rise of immune failure and autoimmune conditions in the industrialized nations. Currently, it is estimated that less than 20% of the original levels of these molecules remain in the industrialized food supply today.
Additional Subjects addressed in this book include:
What are the suspected causes of IBS & IBD and the importance of the immune system.
How does stress impact the body?
What kind of diets are beneficial for cleansing and how does diet relate to these diseases. What triggers the re-occurrence of them...Foods to try and foods to avoid?
“Phytomedicine” and a brief history of Herbology including Chinese medicine through the ages.
Loss of chemical compounds due to diarrhea and why drugs will never cure IBS & IBD.
And a Glossary and methods of herbal preparation.

Preface
We have two close friends that now have Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
In one friends’ case, it’s Crohn’s disease and in the other, it’s Colitis. Those two diseases fit into the category of IBD.
Bowel inflammation is a sign that the body has been harmed and is vigorously attempting to detoxify and heal itself, and it will do so if the causes of disease are discontinued and the biological requisites of health are provided or restored.
Those that control the FDA and other government organizations try keeping certain studies and research quiet by downplaying alternative medicine, natural healing and other solutions that could be keeping you from getting the information you need to live a healthy life, not to mention eliminating the effects of drug dependency, bad drug side effects, premature aging and recurrent infection and pain.
I grew up in a family that believed in, and to this day uses, herbal medicine. My father studied herbology for years and even wrote some articles on the health benefits of herbs gleaned from researchers all around the world. I began sifting through his old materia medica, and other resources, and was wondering what cures the old herbalists had for Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Inflammatory Bowel Disease, if any, in hopes of providing my friends with some hope for a cure, or at least some relief.
During our own extensive research, my wife and I discovered that Colitis and many other bowel and digestion complaints have been treated with plant medicines for many years. We were wondering just what were the herbs used back in the olden days to treat those ailments specifically and discovered information that we think has been pretty much lost to modern day
folks. This realization is what compelled us to write this book and get this information out.
The body’s immune system gets compromised
*IBD is classified as an auto-immune disease because of the body’s inability and cellular disruption in recognizing foreign agents as opposed to non-foreign agents in the digestive tract. *IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) is a total confusion by the intestine as to how to push material through to the colon, and dispose of the waste. The wave action of the bowel gets suspended.
What we discovered
We learned that there are regiments that will re-invigorate your digestive tract and restore your immune system via controlled diet. We also uncovered a storehouse of information regarding natural healing treatments for stomach and intestinal disorders that have endured throughout the ages.
In this book, we bring you the best current knowledge of how to strengthen your immune system through diet and herbal treatment thereby allowing your body to heal itself. This is the only true cure for any disease: A strong immune system. Immunosuppressant drugs are surely not the answer because they inhibit and suppress the immune response and are actually doing the opposite...making people sicker. Drugs can only claim to possibly treat the symptoms of IBS and IBD. However, our research shows that natural remedies, along with good food, can possibly conquer these diseases, and with ZERO side effects.
This book brings you some of the best-recorded herbal folk remedies, which have been employed for centuries by the ancient and early herbalists, the Chinese, the gypsies, the American Indians, and the old-time country doctors.
At the back of the book is the Herbal Glossary and Methods for Herbal Preparations.
Please read all about these wonderful medicinal plants such as: Ginger, Golden Seal and Slippery Elm Bark, and learn how to cleanse your body and detoxify your system.

Chapter 1
Introduction
IBS & IBD
Diag. A
Current Medical Diagnosis
If you have been diagnosed with IBS or IBD you already know what the symptoms are and what the doctors can or cannot do for you. This section discusses the diseases so you’ll get a clear picture of their effects and differences.
IBS
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a problem that affects the large (and small) intestine’s muscular contraction motions. The term, Peristalsis is used to describe the movement of muscles in the GI tract, it is the wave-like pushing-onwards activity of the intestine, along with the release of hormones and enzymes, this activity allows for the digestion of food. (See Herbs: Golden Seal)
With irritable bowel syndrome, the muscles in the colon do not function normally and may spasm. It can cause abdominal cramping, bloating, and a change in bowel habits. Some people with the disorder have constipation. Some have diarrhea. Others go back and forth between the two. Although IBS can cause a great deal of discomfort, it does not
