Late.
Late.
I was late on my first day of class. I had never been late in my entire life, much less on my first day. I was sure my professor was going to kill me. My older sister—who’d attended this college just four years before—had mentioned Veronica Caro numerous times. A good teacher, apparently, but very strict. She told me to make a good first impression, and normally I was good at making good first impressions.
But now I was late. I hadn’t even met Dr. Caro yet, and already I’d ruined any chance at a good reputation for the future.
I actually woke up early, you know. I woke up bright and early for my first day of classes at Northridge University, and I decided that I’d start my day off right with breakfast and a cup of coffee down at the cafeteria.
A cafeteria that, I realized entirely too late, was on the other end of campus. And a cafeteria that was jam-packed full of students and had the absolute slowest service in the history of food service. There was a fast food place nearby, but no—I had insisted on having the full college experience, which meant eating in the cafeteria. Why I chose to do it on my first day, I don’t know. Sometimes I’m illogical, I guess.
Either way, it made me late. So very late.
