The fun and easy Unit Study for Home Educators

Welcome to PowersUnits!  These are simple to use unit studies that have been tried and tested both in home and in co-op settings for elementary aged children.  They are all laid out for you to use day-by-day making your planning and teaching of this material very easy to do.  It is organized by activities so you simply prepare for and check off those activities that you actually do.  They cover a varied grade level (K-6th), so just choose those that would best suit your children.  Oftentimes, preschoolers enjoy these units as well making this a true family learning adventure.

The 'It’s Buggy Unit' is a four week unit study focusing in on several different types of ‘Bugs’.  Each week it will focus on a particular type of bug or two to study in depth.  Please note that the term ‘Bug’ here is used generically to indicate bugs, insects, isopods, arachnids, bees, wasps, etc.  These scientific terms will be explained and introduced each week.

More activities and ideas are presented here than you can use.  Please do not feel like you have to do them all. To get the most out of this unit you may want to chose from 2 to 3 activities each day, 4 days a week.  The 5th day is for a Co-Op Day, although this can also be done at home. The daily activities should take 1-2 hours a day to complete. Although this unit is heavy in science there are other academic areas covered making it a true unit study.  Be sure to add in your own ideas for crafts, field trips, DVDs, Utubes, Internet, etc. to make it even more exciting!

You will notice at the end of this guide you will find two important things. The first is a Book & Material Search and the second is a Supply List.   The Book & Material Search is a listing of words for you to search on-line for books and DVDs for you to use during this unit.  I do
