About this ebook

About the book
In this book, the author seeks to prove that God’s church is very much alive, well, and growing, simply because God cannot fail in what He sets out to do! This book will show that what often passes for the church in general, including many of its practices, is really what man has established and done, and not God. This is the author’s twelfth book in The Truth Seeker’s Library series.

    INTRODUCTION

There is no doubt that many readers will have come across articles and books which claim that the church is losing its young people, or that membership in the church is declining or that not as many churches are being started today, or some other negative statistic relating to the church. The reality, however, is that no one is leaving the church, its membership is not declining, but rather increasing all the time, and the churches that God wants to see established are being started now, and this has been the case for almost two thousand years. You might be reading this and saying, How can this be? Well, the reality is that whatever God institutes, the devil comes along and institutes a counterfeit in order to deceive people and lead them astray from God and the truth. And this is also true in regards to the church, which is an institution of God, which the devil has also brought a counterfeit to into existence.

For what needs to be grasped here is that the counterfeit to the church that the devil started did not start two thousand years ago, which is about when God instituted His church on earth; but rather started at the beginning of time, when he instituted a false religious system through Cain, the first male child to be born to our first set of parents, Adam and Eve. It is the existence of this false religious system which has made people in general to have a false idea regarding the church. That is why if one were to ask almost any person what the state of the church is today, one would likely get the answer that the church has never been in more trouble than at the present hour. In fact, most people queried, especially if they are unbelievers, would say that the church is totally irrelevant in today’s society. But the reality is, as this book will show, God’s church is very much alive, well, and continually growing! In fact that will indeed be the case until the present church age, in which we are living, ends.

For what also needs to be grasped here is that what most people think as being the church – as what is visible on many a street corner in America – is not at all the church that God has in view in His word, the Bible. The church that God established on earth almost two thousand years ago is not a building, but rather a body, that is, one body making up all the believers of the world, which God indwells through His precious Son by The precious Holy Spirit. This is the universal aspect of God’s church and it takes in every believer in existence on earth at any given moment. Then the local aspect of God’s church is all the believers in any one locality at any given moment of time anywhere in the world.

We see the church being viewed in its universal aspect in the very first mention of the word church in God’s word, which is when God’s precious Son in human flesh, Jesus Christ, stated at Matthew 16:18, I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. When God’s precious Son says here, I will build my church, He is making reference to the church universal and speaking of the church in its entirety, from its beginning right up until its completion; in other words, until He has finished building it. Since this is a key verse relating to the church, we will be looking at it in much greater detail later in the book.

We then see the church in its local aspect when God says at 1 Corinthians 1:2, To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, saints by calling, with all who in every place call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours. Let us notice here that God identifies this local church at Corinth as being the church of God, not meaning of course that it was the only one in existence, but rather that it belonged to Him. We also need to be aware here that Corinth was an ancient city in Greece. I have had the privilege to go there in the year 2000 and there are only ruins there today. But back then, around 54 AD when the above verse was written, it was a vibrant local church.

What this book is about then is taking a look at the church that God instituted, as to what it is and is not, as to when it began, as to what God’s purpose was in instituting it, as to how it is to function, as to its intended leadership, as to when it will end, and so forth. We will also look at how denominations started; so that today the visible church is no longer seen as what God brought forth, but as what man has been working to build. We will be mainly concentrating on presenting a view of the church as God intended it, and as it is spiritually, so as to then be able to discern any deviations from God’s intention. For it is only in having a clear view of the original that we can spot any counterfeits! This is not an exhaustive work, but all the major points have been covered so as to give us the basic framework to serve God acceptably as His Church on earth. For what is unfortunate in our day is that very few believers appear to have a really clear grasp of what they have been made members of by God.

What should also be mentioned before closing this Introduction is that after completing 21 years of formal education and then spending almost 28 years working in Project Engineering and Management in the Corporate offices of a large utility, God called His servant as a non-denominational evangelist in early 1999 and then sent him out over 3000 miles, away from family and friends, to the place of service God assigned, which is where His servant has been and is still serving Him as evangelist, counselor, author, editor, and publisher. The author is a widower with three adopted children, now married.

A website has been established for the purpose of interacting with readers, which can be found at:

    http://www.pilgrimpathwaypublications.com

God also led His servant to establish another website specifically for gospel ministry, since the author is an evangelist. That website can be found at:

    http://www.servantofmosthigh.com

And now my prayer is that God will richly bless you as you read this book, and greatly minister to your every need in your life as only God can! To Him be all praise, honor, and glory, with thanksgiving!

Since all that God’s does is always in absolute perfection, then the church that God is building cannot be otherwise than alive, well, and ever growing!

    CHAPTER ONE

/ A necessary background to have in order to properly understand what the church and the church age are

    1) What God has been looking for since the dawn of human history

As we begin, it is important to realize that what God is doing in the present age, which is known as the church age, is not disconnected from what God has been doing in previous ages since the beginning of time, and will not be disconnected from the age to come either. What was clearly shown in one of the author’s previous books, namely the one titled, An Introduction To The New World That Is Coming Upon The Earth, is that since the beginning of creation, which is also when time started to be marked, God has been seeking human beings who will willingly serve Him out of love for Him. We can all understand this, since none of us wants a spouse who is forced to love us and live with us. So too with God, as He has always desired those whom He has created for Himself to serve Him willingly out of love for Him.

As we all know, when God says in His word at Ephesians 6:4, Children, obey your parents…, that of course means that as their children, we are to obey them, which means serving them by carrying out their will. And carrying out their will means doing a specific task, like taking out the garbage, setting the table, or mowing the lawn. The same applies in our service to God out of love for Him; it too
