From the Publisher
The framework of all genuine European fables and folk tales are of Indo-European origin. The stories have spread from one country to another without losing their original typical character. They have become passed among the population by means of the living words - words and sounds they have heard - which breathe into the listening ear the glee and woe of the hero, the sorrows of the faithful against whom foul play is started and the many insignificant yet collectively important details and incidents that produce the obligated tears or smiles. No greater teaching force has ever been discovered that the story and no one has ever lived who used that force so skilfully as did our great teacher.
It is not strange then that among all the stories that have been written or told none are as dear to us as the stories and legends which enthralled us in our youth. Young and old alike delight in them and never tire of hearing them
Care has been taken in compiling this little volume and each story has its own sweet lesson. Each one is from the pen of one who has imbibed the real spirit of these stories and it is my earnest wish that this little book may find its way into may homes that its contents may help spread a deeper appreciation of their true intents.
