Can you imagine what love feels like before it turns into something else?
Staring at the wedding picture of David and Jennifer, with their smiles and their contentment, they looked so happy. You wouldn’t think it would have come to this moment. As your eyes moved across the room, you noticed the broken glass coffee table in a million pieces. You continued to pan the room and saw the chair turned over on its back. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw another picture of them cracked across the frame. The flowers that were not even wilted were spread crossways on the floor. As you continued to scan the room, you saw two pairs of feet.
One set of feet had on its left foot one high heel and on its right no heel. The other set of feet had no shoes on, and you could tell they were men’s feet. As you go from bottom to top, you could see each of them, Jennifer’s dress was ripped and David’s pant leg had a hole in it around the knee. Jennifer had her belt around the outside of the loops of her dress, while David’s shirt hung outside of his pants. You noticed that David had blood on his shirt where there was a small puncture hole. Your eyes switched over to Jennifer and noticed she had blood dripping from her arm; but, you don’t know from where. Now, you had them both in view; they were breathing heavy. They are breathing heavy with their opposite arms extended at each other and with guns pointed at each other’s heads. As darkness fell, you heard the guns go off.
Four and a half years earlier had been the happiest day of their lives. Jennifer had just said yes to David’s proposal. Her expression had such joy. Jennifer had been an up and coming lawyer in her firm. She had worked hard, becoming only the second person in the firm promoted to a junior partner.
David had gotten his dream job in marketing at a great firm. He felt he was now ready to take on a wife and a family. Their dreams had come true; they had found someone they loved and wanted to spend the rest of their lives with.

Ever since Jennifer was young, she wanted to meet the right man and get married. As a child, she came from a typical, two parent family. She was a little girl who played with dolls.
See, Barbie, Ken will be home from work any minute. We will clean up soon,
said a little, six-year-old Jennifer. Yeah. Ken’s home. We can now have dinner.
Why did you have to make chicken casserole again? I told you I wanted steak. Do you ever listen?
Jennifer said, pretending to be Ken.
I’m sorry, Ken. I totally forgot. Will you forgive me?
she said, speaking for Barbie now.
Yes, but I’m the one who should say sorry. I shouldn’t have talked to you like that,
she said, in Ken’s voice.
Ken, I forgive you.
Barbie, that’s why I love you.
Then, Jennifer made them kiss.
As she played with her dolls, she heard her parents’ bedroom door open. Her mother came out; and then, a man who wasn’t her father. Her mother kissed the man; and then, turned toward her daughter and put her finger to her lips. She motioned shhhhh
as she walked the man to the front door.

Later that night, it wasn’t so pleasant with her mother and father. There was no sorry spoken between the two. In her view of her world, there were no problems that couldn’t be worked out with a good argument and a reasonable conclusion.
As a little girl, she hadn’t needed the dollhouse with all of its furnishings. She needed to know that whenever her dolls argued, they would resolve it and make up with a kiss.

When David was a little boy being raised by a single mother, he understood one thing, he had to work. He remembered the days his mother walked into the kitchen and he saw how tired she was from a long day of work. He never wanted to see that look in this wife’s eyes.
Mom, where are you going?
said a sixteen-year-old David.
Baby, your mom has to go back to work,
replied his mother.
Mom, when I get older I will take care of you. You will not work at all,
David said, giving his mother a hug with a big smile on his face.
He knew his mother worked so hard and yet she still never missed a game or a school event.
***
One day, David was at one of his school’s events. He was waiting on his mother to get there before making his presentation. It was getting late and the teacher couldn’t wait any longer. David went on, but was very curious why his mother wasn’t there.
Then, the event was over, and they were cleaning up the room. A few people were around when a police officer came in the room.
Son, can you come with us?
said the officer.
Why? What’s wrong?
said David.
We need you to come with us,
the officer said.
I’m not going anywhere until you tell me what’s wrong?
David said, looking at the officer and the teacher that was present.
Give me a second,
the teacher said to the officer.
He walked away, and the teacher took a deep breath. I’m sorry, David. Your mother died from a stroke this afternoon while working.
David cried.
I am so sorry,
the teacher said, again.
David walked off with the officer.
David didn’t know his father, but made a note that he would not be absent from his kids’ lives. His wife would not want for anything. David wanted a family of his own; that was his dream.

Jennifer and David met by accident. Yes, literally by accident. Jennifer ran into the back of David’s car while rushing to work.
Oh, hell!
David shouted, getting out of his car. Lady, what in the hell were you thinking?
David exclaimed.
David was a well-groomed man, about five feet seven inches tall. He had milk chocolate skin and was dressed in a sport coat and jeans.
Jennifer saw him walking toward her car, staring at her with those hazel eyes.
The light was red, didn’t you see that?
The light wasn’t red; it was yellow. And, if you would have just driven on, both of us could have made it,
Jennifer yelled back. Jennifer stepped out of her car with her new, shining, black shoes and her calves looking firm and toned. Her black skirt hugged her hips, showing him a glimpse before her jacket covered them.
David towered over this five foot five, tanned, blue-eyed and chestnut-brown haired, beautiful woman, yelling at him.
What are you, blind? The light was red,
David yelled back.
The light was yellow, and now I will be late for work, again.
Jennifer rubbed her head, looking concerned.
Listen, I’m sorry for yelling. And, I’m sorry you will be late.
David identified an expression on Jennifer’s face he hadn’t seen since he was a child.
I’m sorry for yelling, too,
Jennifer said, looking at David and wondering why he was saying sorry when she ran into him.
Look, I’m not hurt, and my fender is not bad. How about we exchange information, so you can get to work?
David said with a little smile on his face.
Jennifer looked at him, again, and said, Okay, but I know the light was yellow. Thank you.
David chuckled as he wrote his information. He mumbled, Enough,
as he finished writing red
as he checked her out.
They exchanged information.

Two years later, looking into his soon-to-be-wife’s eyes, he saw joy and love. As she looked back into her soon-to-be-husband’s eyes, she saw someone she could argue and agree with in life.
There never had been a couple that should have had a happier ending.
The people around them saw their smiles as they hugged and kissed. Everyone around them clapped their hands as David and Jennifer walked off the dance floor.
If you looked at their faces, you could see that there was something else going on between them.
David and Jennifer were married a little over four years, now.
As Jennifer entered the office on this day of work, things seemed to go well. It was an office where everyone knew your name, but your personal life was kept to a low whisper. People in Jennifer’s office loved to talk and wanted to hear a good story. As she walked into her private office, John came in behind her and closed the door. Before she could even put her office bag down, he gave her a romantic hug from behind.
What are you doing, John? How do you keep getting pass my assistant?
she questioned John, but she did not push him away.
John was Jennifer’s second real relationship. John was a clean-cut, athletic, white boy. He had dark hair and these piercing blue eyes. John spent time in the tanning salon.
What do you mean? I’m just trying to get my morning hug in before this day gets started,
explained John.
You understand we can’t be doing this here, anymore. You know I’m married now. How would that look for me around here?
said Jennifer, as she squirmed out of John’s arms and walked around her desk toward the window.
Listen, I’m not trying to get anyone into trouble. You know that I care about you. I still don’t know why you married David when you still have feelings for me,
John said, smugly.
The feelings I have for David are much, much different than what I had for you. I don’t want to continue being that woman,
Jennifer said, sadly.
"I haven’t given up on us, yet. David doesn’t know what he has in a woman like you. I do, and I’m not sure if I’m ready to let that go. It has been two
