      Pen tapped against her lips, Laura looked at the notes she’d made as she sat crossed legged on the bed. With this being her first Christmas with G she wanted to make it special. Unfortunately, her simple plans had morphed into something much larger. A little fact she wasn’t sure he would welcome with open arms.

      He’ll just have to live with it, she decided, blowing a stray strand of hair away from her eyes. With no time like the present to get started, she got off the bed, pulling all her notes together before picking up the in house phone to call down to Peter.

      Peter? she asked when the call was answered.

      Yes, Miss Davis?

      Where are the Christmas decorations kept?

      Christmas decorations?

      Yes. You know, tinsel, figurines, that stuff.

      We don’t have any. Master Duchan hasn’t decorated the mansion or observed Christmas for four hundred and fifty years.

      He hadn’t? Well that was about to change. Thank you. Oh, she added before ending the call, could you arrange for the car to be brought around?

      I’ll see to it right away.

      Door between their rooms opened she poked her head through the gap. G, I’m going shopping. Want to come along?

      I’d rather have my eyes plucked out by crows, came a mumbled reply before she saw him raise his head. You are not going out alone.
